clickme This is screen grab showing a silly fast disk write on my work machine (Quad G5, 4.5 GB ram, 250 GB hd...) through "Activity Monitor".
If you're using safari you may need to reload the new window to get the pic.

I don't see anything that indicates a fast disk write. Your written/sec is 0.

Write speed is calculation of data over time. It's possible the blip was just a few bytes (1/1000 kb) of writing right before the app's timer triggered a check, or caught the very tail end of a longer write, which would make the result look like a mathematical anomaly.

It can write that fast if it writes a small amount of memory to cache, yes.

I was going to say "sure, for 30-60 milliseconds while it fills the drive cache" but then I realized you have a G5 which is only 150MBps SATA... so it's probably just a rounding error.
