Yeah they're cool, but could you save them in a format other than TIFF? Most web browsers cannot display .tiffs. How about GIF or PNG?

you might wnt to try and upload .jpg's as most browsers do not recognize .tiff files. I downloaded them. I'll let you know what I think in a minute

tiff should be supported when you have a quicktime plugin and so people can use it...

if you really like to see it I can put a "preview" image with all the smiles (gif)

oke, no problem.
But (left -> right & top -> bottom)
smile 2 and 3 I already made. I am not sure about 1 and 6

Icon 4 is a smile that got a kiss... smile 1 is a femal but smile 5? a lock or something? and smile 7 is a dead smile?

I really wanne make a complete smile set for MacOS X that can be used in every application.

MacNN,

Isn't it time to update your smilies faces? It's getting pretty outdated now, doesn't you think?

How about if you set up a poll and see if people want new smilies for MacNN forum?

If we're going to get new smiles, please make sure that we keep the animation of the eyes and tongues

I love them!

MacNN won't use PNGs since they aren't supported on some browsers (IE for Windows, Netscape). They are also about double the size of GIFs. (Smilies are normally 500 bytes, they would be 1K, yes it does add up). I don't know I don't like about those. I like the shadow/anti-aliasing/gradients.. but the drawn expressions.. maybe you could do a set where you copied the expressions from the UBB ones? The UBB ones really express emotion.

Edit: You can't create real polls with UBB, you have to just have to get people to say Yes or No. Anyways, is it just me or was it the mods/admins he wanted to make the poll?

Those icons agasthya posted represent:
giving a kiss (your "girl" icon above doesn't quite do it...)
embarrased
my lips are sealed
foot in mouth (like if saying something inappropriate)
talking money (that's a $ sideways)
yelling (sometimes angry, but not always-- can be used for surprise)

Very very nice! Gracias!
I'm gonna have to shove these into my IM apps now...

You named the "foot-in-mouth" one kissing.tiff.... lol.

Still, I think your "girl" icon (which should be puckering to look like the "standard" kissing one) looks a bit angry.

This collection is really getting big

If I only had Photoshop for OS X

btw, I think I will only make icons for X, not for the web

What I'd really like to see is some nice vector based smilies (EPS, PDF, SVG, etc). EPS and PDF would have the advantage of being supported natively by all OS X applications via NSIMage. I think this would make for scalable smilies that look good.

OS X doesn't use extra data from images, it makes it just smaller. same as flatting the image and resizing it in photoshop.. but worse

All the smile icons you see here are made 128px x 128px... but they are better at this size (20x20) and if you let it resized by the finder it isn't really good

If I am not totaly right plz say so.
