Are you using iTunes 4 to RIP your MP3's?

If so you may actually be ripping MP4's which will not play on your MP3 player.

Have the tracks you are having problems with been ripped since the upgrade from iTunes 3 to iTunes 4?

Have a look in the iTunes preferences and check the setting for the file type.

I encountered the same problem, but figured out at least one error of mine that caused this to occur. You must record at an mp3 sampling rate that is high enough to be compatible with your home mp3 player.

Using your computer, if you record a low level mp3 with a sampling rate of, say, 11.025 kHz, then you may discover that your home DVD/mp3 player won't play the track. Most home unit DVD/mp3 players require a minimum 22.050 kHz sampling rate for audio playback. [The owner's manuals often only mention a minimum bit rate requirement.] At lower sampling rates your unit will attempt to load the track but then skip over it, continuing up the line until it finds a track with a compatible minimum rate.
