Why not build a list of the games that work with Panther and what you had to do to get them to work (i.e. patch, etc.)?

Allow me to start off:

1. Age of Empires II Gold Edition

worked without patches

2. Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds & Clone Campaigns

worked without patches

3. Return to Castle Wolfentstein

required v1.4.1 beta patch to run

......more?

I will be testing Unreal (no doubt it needs the patch recently released!), Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003, Warcraft III.

I cannot wait until C&C Generals is released.

Most games seem to work OK. Maybe a list of games that don't work would be more use. Those that don't work are more the exception than the rule by my testing.

NWN works well (in fact, better on my rev a PB12) in 10.3.1.

UT works. But there are less and less servers that let 136 version clients in.

That Beta's been out for months now. You should have upgraded to 1.4.1 long ago. If you didn't upgrade, you had very few servers to select from.

Ryan Gordon's hopefully almost done with the Mac port of UTPG. If not, I'll be very, very sad.

436 I think you mean (crazy keypad typer )

It's unfortunate that there were such significant changes between 436 and whatever version PC users have, and that we've basically had "broken" netplay because of that. I think it's unlikely that we'll get those changes, although I don't know if Gordon will update us to the latest.

NWN runs great. Dungeion Siege runs OK (it seems to be just as buggy as it was before with its random freezes). UT2K3 is smooth. Solitaire plays great.

Quake 3 doesn't work for me... I did an archive and install and might have nuked something in the /Library folder. Dunno for sure. It goes into full screen mode like it's going to show the "metal" id logo, but it just hard freezes the machine.

Unreal Tournament 2003 has frozen on me in-game a few times since installing Panther. And when I say frozen, I mean 100% locked up. Only solution is a hard reboot. Very frustrating. And I do have the latest UT2k3 update installed. My other games all seem to work fine.

SimCity 4 seems to have some drawing problems. I made sure to install the 1.0.1 patch, as it had problems under Jaguar initially also. Anyone else seeing anything funky with this?

I'm surprised how good my old Classic games work in Panther.

I've tried DS9: The Fallen and Klingon Honor Guard and with a dual G5, the software renderer is fantastic... even at high resolutions. The a/v sync is much bettern than it was under Jaguar.

I'm still haveing problems with No One Lives Forever 1. If you have dual monitors, your cursor becomes "detached" from the game and you can manipulate objects on your 2nd monitor while the game is playing. And you can't control Kate Archer!

RealMyst still runs slow on a Dual G5 in Panther.

And Giants still does not support bump mapping in Panther.

Medal of Honor Spearhead works better under Panther than Jaguar.

Bejeweled Deluxe won't run in full-screen mode (crashes)

Finding Nemo makes the screen black-The game is running, I can hear the sounds and can apple-q to quit it, but no video joy.

Mike's Cards has serious video artifacting in Panther.

Mike's Arcade works fine

I am a victim of the Video card fiasco under Panther so that may have some impact on my POV

I hope the permissions repair I did this morning will allow my flat panel to work tonite. I don't like using the 14" CRT.

HI

I seem to be having a problem since the install of Panther, experiencing a slow breakdown where the fonts in the menus begin to glitch, then additional screen artifacts appear, then things freeze and the spinning rainbow appears, ultimately ending in a kernel panic darkening the screen, and telling me to restart.

Any one experiencing the same or have any ideas what could be causing this?

I thought it was Suitcase, but now I am not so sure, since it happened with Suitcase off a couple of times. the time to crash seems to vary and I cannot pin it on any one thing, short of doing a clean install, I do not know what to do, and I have no where to put the 50 gig of data on the drive anyway...

I have a Duel 1 Ghz quicksilver G4, just upgraded to Panther, before, everything was rock solid.

thanks,

My favorite arcade-type shooter game for Classic is Hyperspeed. It worked fine in Classic until Panther. Whereas it used to be totally smooth, it's now way too jerky and has become unplayable.

This is on a Pismo Powerbook G3 w/320 MB RAM and an 8MB non-Quartz Extreme video card. Maybe it'll fare better when I get around to upgrading my G4 DP 450 to Panther.

Sadly this is the only computer game I have enjoyed for over 3 years now. I just recently switched to Mac and I miss it more than I thought. Anyone recommend a good game that is close in game-play to CS for Mac?

I believe the Quake 3 mod Urban Terror strives to be close to it in gameplay.

Go back to PC if want to play decent games at good frame rates. Keep your Mac for serious work related stuff.

Well I am not totally into games, I just like to play one every once in awhile. I just put my PC to rest in storage and I am really not willing to have my 21 inch monitor and my PC hooked up just for games. I love just having my powerbook on my desk and that's it.

Does this q3 urban terror game work on a Mac? How well would it run on a powerbook 12" 1gz with a geforce 5200? Where can I buy the game and where do I donload the patch, for Mac?

Thanx guys.

Well, I gave you the link for the Mac OS X download, didn't I?

The game is free, but you need Quake 3 Arena, IIRC.

iMac 10.3
128 RAM
700 Mhz

Runs totally crappy, alright on OS 9 mode

Powerbook 10.2.8
384 RAM
800 Mhz i think

Runs okay in OSX mode, still impossible for the average ladder player.

Does anyone know if the Warcraft III (not Frozen Throne) CD is a hybride CD, i.e. able to install to Mac or Windows, it's just I've a PC version and will switch soon, be annoying to have to buy another seeing as my parents won't exactly be using it on the Windows machine... (I guess I might have luck in selling it but hello 80% depreciation LOL!)

All Blizzard games are hybrid. I love Blizzard. You should have no problems installing it with the same cd-keys (as long as someone else isn't using the PC version at the same time on battle.net)

I've had some interesting problems with Panther.

So far, I have gotten Age of Empires II to work fine. However MOHAA and Jedi II have been behaving oddly. Basically I am getting an intermittant hangup while playing. The screen just freezes from about 20 to 30 seconds every 4 or 5 minutes, and then everything starts working again. This at all video settings.

I am runn ing a Yikes! G4 350 with 1 GB RAM, and an original ATi Mac Radeon (not the 7000). The games are installed on an external Firewire 90 GB drive. The weird thing is that when I ran these games under 10.2.6, they would just freeze, requiring a reboot. This only happened once I installed the Radeon. Everthing worked fine when I was running the original Rage 128 OEM card. ANd for those who would flame and tell me its time to buy a G5, I have found that with sufficient memory, I can run just about anything more that acceptably.

So, my question is this, is what I am experiencing related to a driver, or permessions, or the fact that I am running from an external drive, or do I have a bad Radeon? I have already checked the memory (swapped backed to the Rage and everything runs fine, just lower framrates) and if memory serves me everything works ok under OS9.

So for now, FPS games are troublesome. Oh, and Freedom Force has problems too.
