With the Tiger OS due in the coming months, I am having a hard time deciding whether to get the iBook or pay extra for the Powerbook. I know that GPU of the iBook is not listed as CoreImage-compatible, and this concerns me.

I have read alot of the posts here and there was a post regarding this same topic a few weeks back, some individuals believe Tiger will still work on the iBook, however lacking some graphics-intensive features. Has anyone heard of more recent news relating to this subject? I think talking to the MAC geniuses would not be helpful because first and foremost they are salespeople and will likely not be informative, they will probably tell me to buy a Powerbook regardless.

I am on the verge of buying the iBook, but there are no guarentees that it will work flawlessly with Tiger.

Are there any opinions of the better-informed individuals in these Forums who can give me advice on this?

Thanks for any and all responses!!!

The iBook will run Tiger. whether it'll be able to take advantage of every feature is hard to say until Tiger is out.

I just bought an iBook to replace my old Powerbook G3.

The ibook will run tiger just as well as it will run panther it just won't be able to do part of core image. it will still be able to do core image but the cpu will be used for some tasks. most of what core image does is speed up image manipulation by offloading it to the graphics processor.

With enough ram, it should be fine.

Thanks for the info guys. I bought the 12" iBook last night and I am glad I bought. It's a sleek little machine. Now I just have to wait for my 512mb RAM to arrive and I am in golden.

Now, anyone have advice on a good case to carry it in?
