I'm thinking of setting up a dedicated UT tactical ops server and I dont know how fast mac and how much memory I would need to handle 16 players?

Will an 604 do it or is a G3 needed?
It will be on a 10 Mbit connection to the web.

Even though it is a dedicated server you will need at least a G3. It needs to track a lot of number and connection to players, a 604 won't cut it. Also since it won't be loading any textures, but it loading more maps, you will likely need 150MB-200MB of RAM. I hope it runs well. And when you have it set up give me the server name and the IP address and I'll play on it with you. Good Luck.

Sorry to pollute your thread, Petter, but SkiBikeSki, did you get a chnace to read my reply to one of your posts in the OS X forum that said that I knew how you could get your DVD player back up and running again?

I think it might have been archived not long after I posted it...

It gets really annoying when the server hiccups. With RAM this cheap, I'd get half a gigabyte. (I saw 512 megabytes for $28 the other day, PC-133 CAS2 SDRAM 168-pin DIMM)

sorry for polluting, but...

Blizzard I did see your post, but that solution won't help me much, I have a FireWireDVD drive. So both the CD and DVD are masters. I got the DVD app, but i guess it only works with apple brand drives or something. Thanks anyways.

Memory is cheap so that will not be any problem at all!
The machine is more expensive. The perfect thing would be to have a stand alone Cube as a server! Quite, fast and small!

I dont want to go for a pece as a server... ;-)

Go for a cheap Athlon box - it'll do the job better than any Mac, and cheaper too.
