Why come whenever I come to this forum, several of the posts have welcoming and exiting green dots on them, and yet when I click, there is no new posts? It's happening a lot (50% of the time), but not every time?

Anyone else?

I know this belongs in feedback, but I'm a rebel. I play by my own rules.

I regularly see green dots on a thread even after I've read its contents (on the same computer). I also regularly see all dots disappear after reloading the Lounge, even if I haven't read the thread contents.

Nope. It goes like this.

Load standard 10 tabs. Check MacNN. Click on thread. Read some inane comment. Roll eyes. Close window.

Read some other pages for a few minutes. Close window.

5 minutes later.

Load 10 tabs. See the thread on MacNN. GREEN DOT!!! Click link. Same inane comment!?!?! Double eye rolls. Close window.

5 minutes later.

Load 10 tabs. Thread on MacNN now has no green dot?

(I just deleted my cookie for the site. We'll see if that fixes it.)

Yeah, I've only noticed it over the past day. Normally the green "new posts" dot goes away after I've opened the thread, but lately it's been sticking around.

I've already read all of the green-dotted threads. It's even putting a green dot on the thread where I have the last reply.

Here's what I tried-

Open green-dotted "Green Dot" thread.

"Back" button to Lounge > Still green dot.

Refresh lounge > Green dot gone.

Close Chrome, reopen, load Lounge > Green dot back

(Chrome on Win7)

I haven't had any problems with the green dots in many years.

Alas, I never use the Back button. I think that screws it up.

I occasionally get it with yellow dots. A few times a week at most though. And just one at a time as a rule.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

I get yellow dots for "unread" threads, and indeed using the Back button messes up the tracking-if you use the link to go back to the main page of the forum you're in, the "unread" dots will be cleared. It's apparently related to your cookie for the forums, but I'm not 100% sure of whether it's just the login cookie or some other cookie as well.

Green dots indicate a thread that I've posted in with unread posts, and the green dots are supposed to work the same way as the yellow dots.
