Just ordered my 24" iMac 2.16 c2d refurb...BUT THE WHITE ONE!! mwhahaha.

I hate glossy screens with a passion and so I ordered the older model. But, I'm still stoked. It will be my first mac desktop! Sexy time!

Have a good rest of your week, amigos.

That, in my opinion, is the best iMac ever made. The graphic card is better than in the current model and the speed is plenty. I just grabbed 3GB of RAM for mine for under $100 and it flies.

Is that ram worse then the stock ram it comes with? Stock is PC2-5300, and the OWC ram from that link says only PC5300. Huge difference? I really have no clue.

As opposed to the not-white 2.16 GHz iMac?

Can't you upgrade the CPU on the iMac with a little jiggery pokery?

I actually chose it over the neon pink one, yes. Way to be on top of your game. I added the 2.16 in an edit and forgot..I sincerely apologize for being excited.

Good. I would have to shoot my foot if you bought the neon-pink one. Just making sure.

I don't think there is such a thing as plain DDR RAM at 5300 speeds. I think it's all DDR2, and thus "PC2 5300". Typo or they don't worry about people noticing little things like that...

I'm sitting on the same computer now and yes, it is better than the newer models. I don't want to turn into Ca$h or anything, but damn...downgrading the video card? As if Macs weren't the laughingstock of the gaming world already?

(Note: I use my videocard for serious work, in particular Motion which needs all the GPU power it can gobble).

I like the new iMacs and I don't play games. While I don't own an iMac, the new ones would suit my needs very well, I've been lusting after them since they came out

I ended up getting the 3gigs of ram from that link in this thread. It will arrive same day as the computer.

Are the vid cards in these things easy to switch out (in terms of access), or would I need to take it to an apple store?

Video cards are not upgradable. Or are you talking about the RAM? That's two screws and a lever.

Same here. Not a gamer. Any Mac out there now would do me just fine. Even the Mac mini. Which I will probably get as a replacement for my G4 tower this next year.

Just curious, do iMacs use dual-channel memory?

If so, are people considering matched pairs of RAM? (just asking, I have no clue about iMacs, just odd RAM pairings like a 2GB stick with 1GB pique my curiosity )

Adding unmatched pairs has zero effect on the speed in iMacs. Well there is probably a littttle difference but that difference is negated by the fact that you have more RAM. The only Macs that really benefit from matched pairs are the ones with Intel integrated graphics.

and even then..

2GB+1GB produces nice results in the benchmarks and it's cheap.
