I have seen a couple of places selling brand new 17" 1.6ghz iMac G5s for $899.00. Is this a good deal?

List the places here to know the truth about a retailer. If it seems too good to be true...

I have no idea as to the relative validity of the price but I know there are at LEAST two electronics dealers who advertise screamin deals in various reputable magazines then, when you buy the item they play bad games with you trying to get you to buy extras (a web cam worth $50 for $200 or a tripod for a digital camera that you can get at Walmart for $20 they jack you for $100) bringing the cost to more than what you'd have spent at a righteous dealer in the first place and buying quality peripherals.
Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

Compared to an emac or a mac mini it is a spectacular deal.

That's how much I paid for my parents v1 iMac G5 when the v2 was introduced. I was planning to get them a Mac mini but this seemed like a much better value. I purchased it from the Apple Store online.

Seems like a good price to me. Apple sells refurbs for the same price.
