Ok, I just got a panicked call from my mom saying that she can't restart into X from OS9. I told her to look under the startup disk control panel and she tells me that there is only the normal HD and Network, but no OS X startup option. I personally dumped 9 years ago and don't remember how to do this. A little help here?

I think holding down the X key at startup will force boot of OS X, assuming there is a valid system on it.

The Hard Disk should have a little "arrow" thing to the left that when clicked will show below a subsection of choices. There should be two choices: OS 9.x.x and OS 10.x.x .

If this doesn't happen then something is definitely wrong with OS X's system folder(s).

If that works, once she is booted up she will need to select the OS X folder in the Startup Disk pane. Otherwise, the next time she boots, she will boot into OS 9.

If all she sees is the HD and network, sounds to me she's using pre-OS 9 like 8.5 or 8.6. The older Startup disk control panels just show the drives and network, but no triangles. They will not see OS X.
