I have a Performa 5300 in my room that i often use as a TV. Apple supplied an IR remote to change tv channels and change tracks on the cd player and the like, but alas, I've lost it.

Is there any way i could control the TV (all I really need is to be able to send arrow key presses) from a remote mac using Apple Events?

The 5300 is running OS9, in case anyone was wondering...

[edit]Oh, and VNC isn't a decent solution.[/edit]

Thank you please.

I think Applescript is your way to go. Open up Script Editor and view the applescript dictionary for the TV application and CD player. Then enable remote execution of applescripts on the OS 9 box (sharing control panel I believe?). Last, write an applescript on the OSX box that says (pseudocode here):

tell application "CD Player" on computer "blahblah"
play
end tell

ad nauseum

OR! If you are feeling adventurous, install the ACGI DIspatcher on your OSX box and call the applescripts from a locally hosted webpage. Your only limit is time & creativity.

Hope that helps!

Hey if possible, give us an update on when you get it working! I am sure there are people on the forums that would enjoy/benefit from reading about it.
