sleeping on the dinner table, jumping up on the tv, on the counter, rummaging through the garbage, eating from dishes in the sink, attacking my bt pro mouse etc etc etc.... i need some pointers on how to keep them under control. As these are my gf's cats, simply getting rid of them is out of the question.

Yell at them.

You're bigger than they are. Be scary when they do something bad, then go and make it up to them with a scratch behind the ears. Seems harsh, I know - but works pretty well.

Also remember - no matter what approach you use to prevent them from doing these things, they'll do them regardless when you're asleep. Turn the TV off, take out the trash, do the dishes, and hide the mouse before you go to bed...
All opinions are entirely those of my employer. It's not my fault.

Feed them only once every 4 days. That should cut down on their energy level.

Spray bottles, squirt guns. They work, but only when you are around. They will still sneak around when you aren't looking.

We had a cat that was about 10 years old. He would NEVER jump on the counter or tables, never get into garbage, he was a great cat for years. Then one day we left and he did something (we never figured out what) to cut his paw. We couldn't believe the bloody paw prints EVERYWHERE. He only behaved when we were looking.

Cats aren't dumb, they're pricks.
Being in debt and celebrating a lower deficit is like being on a diet and celebrating the fact you gained two pounds this week instead of five.

Buy this:

To keep cats from jumping onto tables, desks, counters, etc . . . stick strips of masking tape with the sticky side up on the surfaces. When they jump up, they'll land on the tap with their paws. It freaks most cats out and they'll lose fur when they yank it out. If it happens a few times, they'll get the picture and stay off the counters.

As for rummaging through the garbage, that's easy: keep the garbage well sealed. And do your dishes more often.

Buy a laser pointer and get them to chase it (but don't shine it in their eyes). If you entertain them enough, they'll be less likely to misbehave. Cats sleep 18 hours a day, so if you can keep them entertained during the hours your awake, you'll have an easier time.

This works real well if you don't mind putting tape on all the stuff you don't want the cats to go on. You only need to keep it there for a little while. For me, the water bottle thing didn't work. Cats see the water bottle as you harming them. On the contrary, they can't comprehend the tape thing, so they think it will always hurt whenever they touch whatever it is you put the tape on.

already all over this one - but gotta wait until the cats kick the bucket naturally, and when we live in a house, not an apt. Once that's done, i'm going straight to my local husky dealer

Great tip. Our cat is a real pest at meal times because he leaps onto the table, no matter how many times you put him down. I'll try the masking tape.

Already got a laser pointer - hours of hilarious fun. Highly recommended, but be careful about shining it near the cat - you'll probably blind it (temporarily) if you get it in the eyes.

As for the dog suggestion, you've got to be kidding. We've got a dog, and the cat rules the dog with a rod of iron. I'm not kidding, the dog almost literally asks the cat if it can come into the same room ! Poor thing

I'm partial to 101 Uses for a Dead Cat. Living cats really have no use.

And don't forget "I Still Hate Cats"

thats because you probably have a poodle or something. get a terrier and the cats will run in fear of its awesome powers.

now our terrier is a nice terrier, but our friends cats were still scared half to death to be in the room with him.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Sure. Terriers are real nice. They have to be the friendliest of the evil-type breeds.

No, my attitude has nothing to do with your snide poodle remark.
