They cost the same so the only question I have is which, if either, is best suited for use between Mac OS X, Windows and Linux?

Doesn't matter... the only time you would be concerned with the difference is when you're putting them in set top players ("minus" works with more players than "plus" by default, but "plus" works with more if you change the booktype to DVD-ROM).
