My fiance doesn't want any files to display file extensions on her account. I thought that it would be a simple task to accomplish this, but I am wrong. Maybe I am doing something backwards or what but I can't seem to hide file extensions.
I have already went into Finder Preferences and unchecked the box under the advanced tab that says "Show all file extensions".
I have went into individual files Get Info dialogs and checked the box "Hide File Extension".
Nothing seems to make the file extension disappear.
Am I doing something wrong or what?
Mike

Nevermind.
I logged out and logged back in. Everything is working as it is supposed to.
The problem...
All the files that seems to have file extensions already on don't hide.
Kinda frustrating.

If you really really want to hide extensions, I could give you an AppleScript that will set the individual "hide extension" flags of most files in the selected directory (and in subfolders), but I don't recommend it.

The hide extensions trick doesn't work if the file is actually named with the extension. That happens often with files brought over from a Windows machine. You could run an Automator job that looks for files that end in .xls and deletes the .xls for example.

I was searching for something related to another post and posted my response here by mistake.
