Manfred Mann slightly changed the lyric, saying "Revved up like a deuce," still referring to the Ford. The final part of this lyric played a part when Manfred Mann later covered Ian Thomas' "The Runner."

Kiss, however, refers to someone being worth a deuce: "Baby, if you're feeling good, And baby if you're feeling nice, You know your man is workin' hard, He's worth a deuce."

Taking the two lines, we can see that even though your man is working hard at pleasing you, you have to cut him loose eventually. This concept is really a precursor and inspiration for Sting's famous song "If you love somebody, set them free." Sting of course is no stranger to the "Deuce" since he was #2 man in The Police, after drummer Stewart Copland.

Unless Bruce recorded more than one version, I certainly prefer Manfred Mann's version. Bruce was, let's say "less polished" when he recorded "Blinded by the Light," and it is very hard, even knowing the lyrics, to understand him on that cut.

Did the Kingsmen really know the lyrics to Louie Louie when they were singing it? (Does it actually have lyrics, or are all they "lyric" sites just making it up like the band did?)

Legend has it that the Kingsmen did NOT know the lyrics-at least not in their condition... But apparently they just spent too much time practicing too hard the night before, and their lead singer got a sore throat out of it-and thus did poorly at enunciating the lyrics. The FBI even investigated this song because parents wrote in in an uproar about it's "obscene" lyrics. It turns out that 1) the FBI couldn't even decipher the lyrics with their lab and 2) the parents were pretty smutty minded themselves. Check Snopes for "Louie Louie" to get more, including a link to The Smoking Gun and FBI documents about the investigation.
