I use an AppleScript to periodically archive old mail, which is then moved to an external drive. Previously, I was exporting the messages to .txt files, which were searchable. However, I would like the enhanced formatting of messages to be preserved, so this time I left them as .emlx files.

Is there a way to force Spotlight to index these "orphaned" .emlx files? It's not indexing them now (and I tried the trick of adding/removing the folder in the Privacy prefs).
I do not like those green links and spam.
I do not like them, Sam I am.

Spotlight has an importer for .emlx files. So maybe it's not searching the external drive.

It is; I confirmed that by searching other (txt, rtf) files in the same folder. Looks like this is a known problem:

is this issue fixed in Leopard, either by having Spotlight search archived mail, or by not having Mail behave strangely when it reaches 2 GB?
thanks
