24 hours? Try 80-something hours..as is the case for me. And it STILL isn't released.

I think they told me the truth...

And it sucks!!!

I called fedex. They said that there were hundreds of other iBooks in the shipment (well, not iBooks - the lady didn't know what they were - I told here) but that there was a problem with the paperwork.

She told me that the broker (who's that?) was working with customs to get things sorted out but she could not give me an estimated time on when things might be worked out.

Bummer. So I'm not hoping for anything till next week.

My question is...how could there possibly be a problem with the papwework? Apple sends out hundreds of iBooks a day through customs. They do this papwework thing all the time. How the hell do the suddenly get papwework WRONG on our shipment?

I think FedUp is trying to cover their asses.

The broker is usually the person that takes care of the customs paperwork that works with distributors to get things into and out of the U.S.
Apparently they dropped the ball this time... hopefully it'll be cleared up soon. It's morning again in Taiwan so hopefully the ball is rolling again.

What is the deal with this mysterious paperwork they need to keep working on?

it's not like Apple started to ship their first computer over the weekend and they're trying to get the hang of the procedure. This should be very routine for them...

Ok - so it's not 2 a.m. up checking a little early but can you believe my unit is now in TN. It's going to FedEx home base first? Then CA? Getting good air mileage anyway.

" Left FedEx Sort Facility MEMPHIS TN 05/31/2001 02:56 "

Maybe arrive in Berkeley today by 4 p.m.? I can only hope .

Well, unfortunately, my iBook has been sitting in TAIWAN for 24 hours now. I got the shipping confirmation from apple yesterday morning (early), and the fedex tracking page has been stuck on "Package received after FedEx cutoff time " since then. It's been just under 24 hours since I got the apple email.

It breaks my heart to see no change in status! I was hoping to have received it before the weekend (there was an outside chance), but now it looks like it will be next week. :-(

I've been going crazy lately. Mine's also been in Alaska since 5/27 at 11:34am. I can't take it any more. I ordered my combo the minute the store reopened on 5/1 and have been impatient ever since. I was so excited to get the message on 5/26 saying that it shipped. Then only to be tortured by seeing the FedEx status say that it's still in Alaska. In 4 more hours it will be there for 4 days!! Anyone else with theirs still in Alaska wanting to go on a commando raid with me? I'm expecting to receive a ransom note from some customs agent. They're probably ripping and burning in some secret customs office right this minute. There's got to be about 100 of us that are in the same boat. I think we can take them(there just customs agents after all, it's not like we'd be raiding Fort Knox). Well, who's with me?!?!!

On delivery truck 2 hours ago, must be within 30 miles...

...and with that I guess I'm done this thread. Best of luck to those still waiting. If ya makes ya feel any better, I'm a long way from where it's being delivered and I won't see it until this weekend when I can get home.

Hang in there. No one is holding them from you intentionaly.

Yay!!!!!!!!
My iBook finally left Alaska... and thankfully, it bypassed Tennessee and went straight to Sacramento (where it left at 6am this morning) so hopefully it will be here on my doorstep sometime this afternoon. Thank goodness... I thought I was going to have to get medieval on somebody's ass...

Wel, I once again spoke to FedEx and Apple. You'll never believe it...this whole thing is actually Apple's fault, and they're admitted to it.

Basically, Customs needs some sort of paperwork to be done (it's not often that they do this...and lucky us..it happened on our shipment). Apple is well aware of the situation, and they're getting the paperwork done within the next 24-48 hours.

We all know what that means. We're not getting these things tomorrow. And we're certainely not getting these things on Saturday, as 2-day Delivery is only on business days.

Which leaves us all...dun dun dun...to expect our precious iBooks on Monday.

You know...now that I know that we can expect these shipments on Monday..I feel sort of relieved. The stress and pressure of it is pretty much gone. Now...we wait four more days.

I think...in a few weeks..I'm going to look back on this entire situation and laugh at it.

something to consider, maybe Apple/Fedex would be willing to upgrade you delivery for saturday.

fedex has that service available ya know

I got my ibook today and put some more ram in which was a snap. Along with an airport card.

The only problem is that airport base station and airport card won't work on os X "officially." Their going to get a tech rep to call me and let me know the work around on this issue.

the screen resolution is awesome along with everything else. My only complaint is the case....this baby will scratch easily....you'll see what i mean soon.

Okay..the Apple Update as of 4:35 EST...is that they're still working on it. They sent all the paperwork, but there's no update as of yet. The friendly representative that I spoke to even read me the e-mail she was sent my her supervisor about the situation.

Get this...there are NINE HUNDRED iBooks being "held hostaage" as the representative said.

Didn't bother to ask. I don't think they could, anyway. It's already shipped as a 2-day.

Waiting for news from Apple...doubt I'll get any, though

Me too. Ordered the combo/20 Gb on May 1st and its been sitting in Alaskan limbo since the 27th. Maybe we can get someone to put the crate on an iceberg push it south. The Apple and Fed Ex folks I talked to were not at all forthcoming with estimated times of clearance.

Well, mine technically is still on customs. That is, the tracking number from Apple store is still on customs but if you put in the one from the snail mail confirmation you might get a different story.

Or maybe I'm just getting two iBooks!

Oh, tried to trick me, huh? Yeah, my other tracking number says the same things as yours, so we're on the same shipment. They're still in Alaska.

I just thought about a stupid joke from I don't know where...

Huummm....my tracking info has said only "Arrived at FedEx Ramp ANCHORAGE AK" for the last day. Nothing else.

Is this a bad sign? (Aside from it sitting in Alaska for a day)

I talked to the Apple lady today who said that they were "working on it around the clock." But she couldn't give me an information about when the imprisoned ibooks would be free.

My Combo iBook, stuck in Customs in Anchorage since 5-27, has left the FedEx sort facility and is leaving Alaska as of 3 PM 6-1. Maybe I will see this thing by Tuesday! And it will be *just* under 5 weeks from the May 2 order date.

I followed up on tracking the Apple sales order number on my printed mailing and got a little more complete story about the events of the last week. Also, the FedEx Waybill number did not match the Apple-provided tracking number (but in that case the Apple-provided number gave a more complete story).

Hmm...the latest FedEx tracking info that I got is this:
Left FedEx Ramp ANCHORAGE AK 06/01/2001 16:02
Left FedEx Sort Facility ANCHORAGE AK 06/01/2001 13:01
Left FedEx Sort Facility ANCHORAGE AK 06/01/2001 12:41
Arrived at FedEx Ramp ANCHORAGE AK 05/27/2001 11:34

Does anyone else whose iBook left Alaska yesterday have anything further than "left FedEx Ramp ANCHORAGE AK"?

I'm sure my iBook is probably in Tennessee or something, but it makes me nervous to stil lsee Alaska 24 hours after it left the place. Show me something OTHER than Alaska, PLEASE!
