OK, i got a new internal HDD for my pismo and i was copying all my old stuff across.

Somehow the partition map has become damaged and i can't use disk utility to repair or erase the disk.

Any suggestions?

Well with vmarks' help I've fixed it.

I booted off the cd (holding c) and booted into single user mode (holding cmd-s) and used fdisk to erase the partition map (fdisk -d /dev/rdisk0).

Then fdisk -a boothfs /dev/rdisk0 created a new partition map.

Disk Utility could then re-partition the disk.

Thought I'd post the fix in case anyone has the same problem.
