With all this talk of clusters recently I couldn't help but think what comandeering one of those would do to our numbers...

"System X": http://www.tcf.vt.edu/systemX.html

Man, what I wouldn't do to get my hand on one of those clusters... It makes my rack of 3 Xserves look so puny!

Hmmm! I wonder how long it would take one of those to complete a Climate Prediction unit? I don't think project servers could feed it work fast enough for any other 1 project. You could probably start your own 1 man team and dominate all of the BOINC projects plus F@H all at the same time.

A coworker of mine was reading about the new Big Blue from IBM, the one that recently dominated all over the NEC Earth Simulator by something like .1 teraflops. He mentioned that in the article it said they were going to use it to something protein something... hell yah! Team MacNN needs to get in on that Big Blue action. We'd single-handedly change distributed computing as the world knows it.

I think it would still take about 3 weeks to do a unit. But at the end of 3 weeks it would have done 2200.
