You seemed to be making good progress, what happened? You just get burned out?

Sucks that there are so many needless resources in an X theme, even worse I bet your theme is going to pop up for Windows based on your screenshots.

If you're reading smegger, is there any way ShapeShifter (in some unspecified future release) could ever work around the enormous resource barrier to X themes and somehow make the process reasonable? I'm guessing it's beyond the scope of a third party but I asked anyway.

Maybe that's more the realm of ThemePark?

Sorry, that was off topic.

Offtopic:
I've suggested that Theme Park be implemented to import from slices of a photoshop file/template. I don't know if that would work, but it seems like a reasonable possibility if all the slices were the correct name...

On topic: I'd really hate to see this theme fizzle out.

Open HexEdit. Open System/Library/CoreServices/Finder/Contents/MacOS/Finder
Press command+J and type in 0029EB10

You'll see this:

Open up DigitalColor Meter app inside Utilities folder and set it to RGB as Hex Value, 16-bit. Now say I get this example: R 8888 G A4A4 B B9B9 In hexedit, replace FF FF FF FF FF FF with 88 88 A4 A4 B9 B9 Save to desktop.

Now just replace the original from Open System/Library/CoreServices/Finder/Contents/MacOS/Finder to the one you just saved. Log out and in again. Done!

(Note: This works only for 10.3.5)

Here I was expecting the answer to be some easy aspect of ThemePark I had overlooked.

Oy.
Seriously, thanks for the cool tip, Demo! Nice work. Now all we need is for some enterprising software author (with plenty of free time) to make a utility to do this as well as allow for easy tiling of images in Finder Windows. (I'm getting sick of hacking into the Finder .plist file, ya know?)

To dislike Sinatra is a sign of highly questionable taste. To dislike the Beatles is a serious character flaw.

Thanks to all helping with the beta.

Sorry haven't been able to respond to some, but I am thoroughly going over all the comments, suggestions and bugs and have worked on many of the issues including readability of type on the buttons, application skins and Im using menu enhancer for the menu bar. And in general getting the theme more consistent.

Should have a second beta release sometime this week.

Same here. Text color is the main problem you need to work around. It's a pain with black themes. Looks great though so far.

Is it possible to intergrate this "hack" into shapeshifter?

I doubt Jason would go for it. ShapeShifter has a strict rule of not editing/replacing ANYTHING. it only re-directs images... or something like that. This sounds too much like it could go wrong and has a huge potential for failure. Each version of OSX probably needs a different hex address.

To add to that...
As much as it would be cool to let SS do these extra things, I think part of the beauty of it is that it specifically doesn't. As MacMan said, SS doesnt meddle with any actual system files and I think it should always stay that way.

Yes there is.
Add the application skin to your guiKit package and edit the resources.
There are about 30 of them I'd guess.
Word of advice : better not use Safaricon.

PS
My answering this does not mean I consider myself a Themepark Guru ! At all !

I don't know why it's not showing up in the list. If the operating system can't find an application, ThemePark won't be able to either, and it'll be disabled in the list, as in your screenshot. Contact me directly if you can't get this working and we'll get it figured out.

I keep staring and staring at this theme in progress...
it is so dark and shiny... like the Imperial Bomber pilots from Star Wars [timely reference, huh? ]

the glowing highlights are insane - I stare <blinkblink>

It really looks fantastic. If you can succeed in making the menu action relevent to the theme and the rollover states legible, you will have accomplished what few of the dark themes have. Font color blowout seems to be a difficult task to conquer.

keep going - we are not patient but perfection is worth waiting for.

That's exactly what I thought when I first saw Cathode.. it looks like the concept of the PSP some gaming magazine had done a while back; it had iPod-style touchpad buttons and was completely gloss-black with defined lines.

Alright, just a screenshot of the latest build.

Finally figured out how to fix the popup buttons in Carbon.
I just have a few more things to do, like redoing the progress bar and I will be sending out beta 2.

Still haven't figured out why my themepark won't skin safari. (Anyone interested in helping?)

Wow, looking great. Is that really Mail or some kind of widget because it looks positively badass in grayscale.

Is that iTunes theme done? It would look much better decked out all in black rather than just the buttons, I think Izawa did a black iTunes with Shinobi and I think NEOS also has a black iTunes so it should be doable.

If ShapeShifter can ever manage to get all those white text areas themeable in color then with some mods all those black themes could become long term usable.

I'm still running Cathode the day it comes out though

Excellent work!

When TP did that with one of my variants, it was because I had deleted the safari skin by accident

wow, this theme looks incredible. I'm not one much for dark themes usually, but I would use this one for sure.

I wish I could help you regarding the Safari skin issue, but I don't know anything about theming. If you do need beta testers or anything, I'd be honored to help out.

Anyway... I keep going back and finding things to redo, so its taking longer than I hoped.
