I have a brand new 12" PB with an Airport Extreme card installed. I went to the local library because they've been advertising free wireless internet, but when i tried to connect...there was nothing. I talked to someone in information there and all they had to say was that i had to configure my 'ssid' to 'library'. Of course, I have NO IDEA what that means. My airport works fine at home. Connecting to other wireless networks, although not my own, has always been a breeze. So what do i have to do to get this whole thing to work?
Specs:12" PowerBook-1.33GHz, 768 PC2700, Airport Express, Panther (10.3.9), iSight, 15GB 3G iPod

Open Internet Connect in your Applications folder, click Airport. On Network click other. Then in Network Name type Library and you should be good to go.

SSID is the name that all wireless networks need. Your library must have SSID broadcasting off to prevent just anyone walking up and connecting to their network. At least with having to type the SSID name in they kind of have an idea of who is using their network.

Well, i tried that solution and it said there was an error connecting to the network "library". They, of course, had no clue what to do next.

according to the 50+ year old woman at the information desk...no. "Although it may also be library" i recall her saying. Either way I've tried it both ways.

Download iStumbler and use it to find out what the library's correct SSID is. Maybe it's Library or LIBRARY or LiBrArY.

Also, maybe the library's base station already has too many users whenever you try to access it.
