I want to purchase an ipod to listen to USMLE review lectures (Gigs of lectures!).

I have two questions:

1) Is it possible to transfer the files from itunes to ipod, and then delete the files on my HD? Would I lose the lectures on the ipod the next time i sync? I only have a 6 GB HD, so keeping 5 gigs of mp3s on my computer is not an option. Otherwise, is there a 3rd-party solution to make a one-time transfer to the ipod and have access to the lectures?

2) Is it possible to make a bookmark with the ipod, e.g. not having to fast forward to the right place each time I want to listen to a certain mp3 (it would be ackward to fast forward 40 minutes on my 1-hour lectures...)

Thanks in advance!

Set iTunes to sync manually and the files will remain on the iPod even if you delete them from your Mac. As for the "bookmark" question, either you can use the 1.1 firmware (which gives you a way to quickly jump to a position within the track, without having to fast forward) or you could split your mp3 files into chunks using Quicktime Pro.
