Ok last night 5 minutes before bed I went to update my "missing sync" software. The install went fine and required a reboot. At the reboot my machine locked up at desktop with no icons right before it goes blue and reboots . I manually rebooted and the machine hung at the little spiny thing after the apple logo, so I rebooted again and got the ghost buster logo, rebooted again and got the flashing "?" folder. So I busted out my OS X CD and tried to run disk utility. The drive can be seen, but there is no partition for it to repair. Same thing with disk warrior. Any ideas how to get the partition to show? Lucky I use deja vu to back up every night to a 2nd drive and my iPod so 99% of my crucial work is saved but If I can avoid a full reinstall of my system and apps that would be great. Thanks!

Try using DiskWarrior to check out the drive.

My boot volume died and I purchased Data Rescue II in order to retrieve a couple months of unbacked up photos, music and dv footage, and it worked perfectly. Highly recommended for data retrieval.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I'd consider replacing the drive. But then again, I'm risk averse. On the other hand a hard drive is cheap. Might be worth it.
