Looking to upgrade yet again now that 7200 has reach the capacity I need but I have been unable to find any sites comparing the following drives. Was wondering if any of you folks had passed any in your travels or had any personal experiences to share. Thanks.

Hitachi Travelstarâ„¢ 7K320
Seagate Momentus 7200.3

Wow, don't know how I missed it earlier when I was there, but I just answered my own questions. If any one else cares here is the review for all 3 drives on Tom's.

Seagate, although the Hitachi is about 10% cheaper.

In my MacBook i can hear the Seagate whirr with nearly every mouse click/drag. But it's pretty fast. The Hitachi has encryption, and the Seagate comes with or without "g-force" - the 500GB drives are worth considering, too.

Seagate, WD, and then Hitachi. Hitachi is overrated when it comes to notebook disks. They are usually fast to the market, but once the others catch up Hitachi usually ends up beat in terms of performance, power consumption, and noise. They're decent drives, but by no means leading.

I'm just now buying a second Seagate Momentus 7200.3. The first batches had some DOA problems which was quite frustrating but they're beyond that now fortunately. They're excellent drives - great performance, low power consumption, low noise. At $90 for that kind of performance they're an excellent deal.

I went with a Seagate Momentus. So far very impressed. Deff notice a speed increase over the 5200 drives with just general use of the machine. The drive is very quite and doesn't seem any warmer than previous ones I had int he MBP, I just notice a very slight vibration on the palm rest above the the drive, something I kinda expected. So far so good

This is more about hard drives than about a Mac notebook. Moved to consumer hardware.

StorageReview.com has a Drive Performance Database.

Barefeats.com sometimes does Mac-specific drive shootouts, but they don't have a specific section for them.
