bwhahahaha! awesome! It would also leave those poor IE6 users out in the cold though. Only the first one would degrade usefully for them. We do care about them, don't we? I thought I remembered you saying you had to fix something for IE6.

Actually i tried in in IE7 and it didn't work there either. I had no idea what cool features you were talking about since I still had to highlight to see the text. I got back to my room and saw it again in Safari and went ohhhhh.

^ I know, idiotic IE ... I jerry-rigged it for IE6 after reading andi's post above but was too lazy to do the same for IE7.

This. This is cool. I will participate in movie and tv show threads just so I can use this.

Don't get a life.

it's pretty simple to use. just put the word spoiler in brackets [ ] type all about Keyser Soze, then close the tag. simple eh.

even a caveman could do it.

firefox 2.0.0.1, windows:

from: http://forums.macnn.com/_eff_temp/spoiler3.html

is it supposed to stay visible after you click? or do you still need to hold down the mouse the entire time to read what was hidden?

you can make it stay visible without much effort but that requires the use of JavaScript. CSS and HTML only know "hover", "active" (= while you hold down the mouse button) and "visited" (state of a link after you clicked) it. Not that using JS would pose a large problem, I was just too busy to dig up an appropriate script.

Oh, I didn't take it as such at all – just thought I'd explain quickly without getting all too nerdy about it.

testing it first would probably be a good idea.

Because I hate spoiler tags... here's a Greasemonkey script to remove them.

MacNN Despoiler

Someone could probably port this over to Creammonkey if they wanted to.

^^ Just a heads-up ... should we end up using the one linked to in Demonhood's post above, your script isn't going to work. You'd need one that sets the background of ".spContainer" to a color only (= no bg image) and makes ".spBody" visible.

I wouldn't want to spoil the despoiling ...

Yeah, if Demonhood changes it, I'll have to update the script. What I wrote only took about 30 seconds, so I wasn't quite ready to go digging through other code until DH decides to actually use it.
