Is anyone else as sad as I am, about the upcoming demise of 80s chic?

I'm too young to personally remember the 80s. But I did have early 90s VHS copies of the Never Ending Story.

And I love Kajagoogoo, Duran Duran, 80s Bowie, U2 (sort of), Men Without Hats, etc.

But I have a feeling that the 80s are going to become passe again in the upcoming decade, and that makes me sad.

Eh, the 80's had a comeback for a few years in fashion. At least that's what I've been told, I was born after the 80's.

In watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the TV show, not the movie) for the first time, I'm kind of missing the 90s.

Wait, I thought Kerrigan was Cody Dawg? If he/she was too young to remember the 80s, how can he/she be Cody Dawg, who was a mother?

I'm always so confused when I come here. First it was Abe appearing everywhere and then stopping and disappearing, then it was Pachead and Macgeek briefly, now it is Cody Dawg that has just uprooted my entire world. Will somebody please help my churning head?

80's ain't dead. Synths are kickin' and some of these kids are wearing ridiculo0us gear that gives me flashbacks to the 5th grade.

Kerrigan, who told you about the "upcoming demise of 80's chic"?

Y'all crazy, I just watched Beverly Hills Cop the other day.

Exactly.

The 80s have just begun to fight back.

The funny thing is that what defines the "80s" sound to a large extent are actually '70s synths.

With the exception of various drum machines, and the DX7 keyboard, which is all over stuff from '84 onwards.

But if Depeche Mode exemplifies "80s sound" - much of that's 70s equipment.

I've found that most people I've met who really think highly of the 80s are the ones who are too young to remember them.

I only spent 7 years in the 80s, but I know this much.

1. Worst fashion decade ever.
2. Cheesiest movies.
3. Best basketball era of all-time.
4. Awesome, awesome music. Period.

What remains of the 80s, musically, is but a tiny sliver of the tip of the iceberg.

Music in the 80s was utterly, utterly atrocious. For the most part.

Clearly you missed the 70s

As a percentage of total movies made, I think it's the 70s again. Crap like "Freebie and The Bean" never makes it to TV. Every movie had to waste your time with at least two long shots of a car driving along with feminist folk singer music in the background.

The 80s were a great experimental time for music. The music started out disco, turned synthetic, and ended up grunge. It was hit and miss for many bands. The most "one hit wonders" came out of the 80s.

Hair was the fashion disaster of the 80s. The 70s were the worst for fashion, in general.

Movies were peaking. Empire, Indiana Jones, Superman II, ET. Many of the biggest blockbusters for a long time were made in the early 80s.

I very much doubt that this is true.

The 60s and 70s were absolutely LITTERED with one-hit wonders - except nobody remembers them.

I can't wait till flannel makes a come back and I'm forced to hate the 90s as well.
(Not to imply anyone forced me to hate the 80s, I was way ahead of the curve there)

Allow me to rephrase...
The majority of one-hit-wonders that make the one-hit-wonder countdowns that I have heard on the radio come from the 80s.

I seldom hear much from the 60s on the radio nowadays (no offense to the sounds). It's just what they play (unless you are listening to an "oldies" station).

That's because those people who might remember the bands in a 60's one-hit-wonder countdown are busy watching golf and signing up for medicare.
