did you sync your ipad after copying to itunes?
there are several apps that CAN read pdfs, but not sure where your ipad put them. Look in iBooks, there is a tab for PDFs. You can also read them in goodreader.

If you download a PDF in iOS Safari, then tap on the displayed document, you will get an option to open the document in iBooks. Easy and simple...

Thank you.
when I connect my iPad to the MPro, itunes comes up and under the ipad there is a new category called 'books'
the pdf I copied from my desk top is there, and I also copied it to the "Library'
I DL's two free apps from the Apps Store:
PDF Pro and PDF reader
also when I click on the PDF in 'library'
what I cant find either on the iPad itself or through either of the two PDF 'readers' is the book ITunes says is both on the Pad and the iTunes library
still a bit lost here.
and yes the iPad is sysnched.
thanks
further ideas ?
much appreciated.
when I click the PDF in "library" it shows up on the computer opened w Preview

Open ibooks on your ipad. At the top, there should be two boxes, books/PDF. Is your PDF in the pdf section?

For serious PDFing on the iPad, Dropbox and Goodreader FTW.

Indeed options abound. Another, is Adobe Reader. I have found Adobe Reader to work as advertised; and it supports "Camera to PDF" (though I have yet to use that feature).

Dropbox has a built-in PDF reader as well.

Are you sure it's not only relying on the iOS built-in PDF reader ability ?

I works, but the iOS internal PDF engine is easily thrown off.
If there is just a slight corruption in the PDF file (even a single bit), iOS stops rendring the PDFs.
GoodReader is very good at rendering even damaged, corrupted and non-compliant PDFs.
