i hate the damned things. i absolutely hate people who drive and talk on them at the same time. i guess i just hate phones in general. i dont even use the landline phone at my house. a couple months ago, the bill came. we called 2 people. 2.

we got a cellphone a year ago when we were looking at houses so we could contact our real estate agent. a week after signing up for the thing we found our house. over the course of the year we pretty much never used it except to make a couple long distance calls.

I like my Motorola StarTAC because it is easy to get a cable that connects it to almost any Palm device.

Nokia 8290

small, thinner than the 8260, 1900 gsm, voice dialing, and the best reception of any phone i've ever seen.

did i mention it was small?

I'm in the market for a new cell phone. Since I threw mine across the room, it doesn't seem to work so well.

Indiana has terrible cell phone service, and because of my service, I have to get a Nokia or a Motorolla phone. Anyone have any suggestions? I want a cool one.

Have you seen this thing in the flesh? It sucks large. I thought I was super cool in picts also but when I saw it and held it is just cheap plastic and awkward to open and use. Not to mention it is overpriced and missing many features that other phones currently have. Oh and it has an antenna, how 1999.

I bought the T68i instead and it kills that Motorola.

Ditto. I like that because it has everything I want AND A cover on the buttons!

I absolutely hate phones that have no cover over the buttons, especially when they start making calls from your pocket!

I vote for the T39m!

Got my first in january, had lots of problems with it, Ericsson had it for 1.5 months and then I got a new one....

If I've were to buy a new one now, I think it would be the Motorola V.60 - it's not new, but I think it's so cool!

i was all stoked about nokia coming out with a cellphone that can take pictures...until i saw it

way too big and bulky (just like the sonyericsson p800). it would have to get way smaller for me to consider it.

until then, i'll stick with my fave...everything you ever wanted in a cellphone...and more

I like everything that's NOT a Nokia (ok that's not true but I HATE Nokia).
Don't have a favourite phone, the T68 is cool, but I don't like the screen, I also like the new Motorola shown above. I personally own the T29s at the moment, I just bought it because I needed te spend money maybe in December or January i'll buy a T68 or T66.

This is what I'm using at the moment:

Samsung SGH-T100

Its the first non-Nokia phone I've had in like six or seven years and overall I'm fairly happy with it, although there are things that I really don't like about the phone (or more likely I've not got used to it yet - had it about six weeks now). I hate the implementation of T9 Predictive text on it. I hate the crappy memory - can only have 10 SMS on it before it bleats about being full - got so used to having 150+ on my old Nokias. I also really don't like not having ringer profiles that I can chop and change between at a moments notice (other than one button to silent). Oh and I absolutely hate the 'handsfree' kit it comes with - its designed to hang the phone round your neck but its too awkward to use in the car.

What I do like however is the size of it and the display - its really lovely for such a small device. And the fact that it comes with two batters as standard - a slimline one which only lasts a couple of days and the extended one that lasts about five/six days with moderate use. The polyphonic ringtones are cool, even though once the initial woo factor wears off you'll probably never use them.

I can live without Bluetooth at the moment until Bluetooth car kits become much more common place then I can do without. I can also live without IR just now - my three previous phones have had it and I can count on my fingers the number of times I actually used it for anything other than playing 2 player snake. The T100 comes with a data cable suitable for importing contacts from another source at initial setup.

The other thing that I really liked about it was that it only cost me 4.50

I'd go back to Nokia in a shot, but there just really isn't anything on the market right now that grabs my attention.

The thing I hate about nokia's is the battery life. I had a top of the line 8860 and the battery would last 20 minutes talk time after a year of use. Out of the box it was about an hour or two talk and 2 days standby.

With my new Sony Ericsson T68i I get 5-6 hours of talk and a week of standby. It is also lighter then any nokia in its class.

Samsung SPH-A500 CDMA phone on Sprint PCS. It's small, has a bright color screen, can download J2ME apps, and if connected to my computer, can get >100kbps... Not too shabby.

I dunno, since I always have my phone in my pocket I can't ever get a phone with an antenna. I find it surprising that anyone would still make them with one as it has been possible to take it out for years.

Siemens S45 and a Nokie 3310 here.

The Siemens lasts about a week and a half to two weeks on standby. Dunno 'bout its talk time - I've never been able to run it down...

Light too, big screen.

For GSM and TDMA phones, yes (note: they still have an internal antenna), but for CDMA phones a pull-up antenna is needed. Notice that the Nokia W-CDMA phone (6650) looks to have a pull-up antenna.

Not sure what it stands for, but over here it is used in regional areas of Australia, where normal mobile reception does not reach. AFAIK it is a variaion of digital networks, that requires a CDMA fone and network carrier to use.

Sony Ericson T68i - This phone is freak'n awesome. It's small, light, decent battery life and has a nice color screen. I purchased mine last night and I'm only half way through the manual. I just found out that I can assign custom pictures and ring tones to a specific caller. How cool is that? Besides it's the only phone AT&T offers with built in Bluetooth. The phone came with a $50 mail-in rebate so I will use that money to purchase a Bluetooth adapter for my PowerBook.

Did you give your number to spouse/partner? What about your friends? My parents both have them, as do I and my brothers. We use them all the time- mostly for small stuff like when my dad has to work late, or when someone will need the car and someone else has it at the mall. Not a lot of long calls, just short useful ones to keep track of other people.

a friend of mine showed up with a t68i one day, and it frickin awesome. the fact i desire the most on my next phone is the fact it is also US-compatible. I dream of all phones becoming suitable for all networks pretty soon.

however, I'm not a rich man, just a poor student.

at the end of the week I have the siemens m50 which is also pretty cool 8)

the 4th edit: it is a gprs phone

heh, I just traded my T29s for a Moto V50 with someone. I some aspects it's a downgrade, but in others an upgrade . Maybe by the end of the year i'll get myself an Ericsson T68i or maybe a new Motorola T720 (not sure about the type, it's the new-one with the colorscreen etc.) And after that, i'm not buying (or trading ) a phone until we have full UMTS here (normally at the beginning of 2004 IIRC).
