I am currently suffering from my attemts to bald my head. Everytime I shave it hurts pretty bad when washing my head clean.

I use a two bladed razor from Gillette (three-bladed cost an arm and a leg…) and shaving foam. I shave every two or three days.

I did it about the 10th time or so now and it constantly keeps hurting. Will this ever stop? How do you shave?

Get it professionally done the fist time. My brother did this and then he just keeps it up with a razor and some good product to condition the skin.

Pre shave conditioner.
Post shave condition.

Sometimes, it's worth paying a little more.

You might try using a HeadBlade . It works for me...

Getting professional help would be a good idea.

How about pictures?

I use the Mach 3 Power. Yes, it costs eleventy billion dollars per blade. But, when you're shaving that much real estate, it's good to use the best you can. Before shaving, I wash everything with hot water and face wash cream (or, I do it right out of the shower). Then, I use neutrogena's shave cream. I like this stuff b/c it's more like a spreadable lotion than Barbasol, Edge, or those other types that are super-foamy, which I think are not as soothing. Afterwards, I use post-shave moisturizer, as needed. After a couple weeks of this routine (I shave maybe 2x-3x per week), everything feels just fine.

I've found the most comfortable razor to be the Schick Extreme 3. It seems to flex a lot easier than the Mach 3 does. Hadn't heard of the headblade before, though...

I don't use any shaving lotion when I shave... the lube on the blade (Mach 3) is enough after you pre-treat your hair with warm-to-hot water. Your blade will last longer if you do this. You can use a pre-shave moisturizer, but sparingly, it's the post-shave treatment that really matters for dryness etc.

My blades last up to 2 to 3 weeks per blade. If you do it right, the money you spend is invested well.
I don't shave my head, but you should get longevity if you follow this advice.

Use aveeno shaving creme. It is like night and day when I use it on my face. No irritation.

Also, try to shower first and dont' shave against the growth.

I have always used clippers and left stubble. Is it really worth the extra time to go to the skin? It does look cool but I've always been afraid I would trash my head.

My 2¢, as the owner of a very sensitive face that can't handle daily shaving:

1. Always, always, ALWAYS shower before shaving, and use conditioner on the hair you plan to shave. Do not skip this. Ever. It softens the hair, making the shaving easier and less traumatic.

2. Use a moisturizing shaving cream, and let it sit for a minute or two to sink in.

3. Use a sharp razor. Don't be stingy. Your head has so many hairs, the blade will be dull after just a few uses. That's life.

4. Get the Mach 3. It really is that much better. It's not so much the 3rd blade, either: the Mach 3 has a much better design that doesn't clog up with hairs. It gives a much less irritating shave. I realize that Gillette charges a fortune for them, but it's worth it.

5. Use an antiseptic wound disinfectant (I like Bactine) instead of aftershave. Not only does it have anesthetic so it won't burn, it'll kill germs that cause irritation and infected pimply things.

I also have a shaving question:
My wife likes me with a 5 o'clock shadow, actually a 2-3 day stubble. Is there a good way to shave and leave a stubble? A razor obviously doesn't work, and the beard trimmer on my electric shaver is pretty tough to use on mere stubble... is there something designed to do this?

Headblade. It's specifically designed for shaving your head. People who use them say they're superior to standard razors.

Wow. Seems that I totally underestimated how important pre- and aftershave lotions are. On monday I'll go and get one of those and try it again. Hopefully it will be a better experience than it it currently. Sounds like that.

Unfortunately, the Headblade is not available in Germany, as far as I could see...

Thanks for all the hints and suggestions!

Actually it could be a great idea if it meant you didn't have to shave your head every other day. Dunno why you'd put it near your eyes, though. Are you in the habit of shaving your eyes???

I think he meant that it might hurt your eyes if it comes in there. And I really am sceptical if this isn't quite a bit too noxious for skin at all...

I've thought of doing this. Does it come out even? No miscellaneous gouges in the back?

One of the main reasons I started shaving my head was the thought that it might be easier--and that's not really so...

IT WORKED! I gave the foam some time to take effect (as tooki suggested), and I didn't shave against the growth (as Severed Hand suggested). Shaving was much easier. It took a while longer, but it was totally worth it! After shaving I used the Nivea Balsam pictured above, and I have to say that it does feel totally different from my last attemts.

Thanks for all the help, guys!

And with time, the skin should get more accustomed to regular shaves.
