Probably next revision, when I assume they will also do away with the old powerbooks. But don't forget that the current 15" MacBook has the same screen resolution as your 17"

My best guess would be that we will see a 13" and 17" MacBook Pro possibly before we see new (iBook) MacBooks.

According to my sources there will be a 19" MacBook Extreme launched on February 31st. It will feature dual Opterons and 16 gigs of RAM in the default configuration, along with a 250 gig NAND-flash based HD.
Seriously, noone knows at this point but it's definately likely as the 17" laptops are a big and growing segment of high margin products for all computer manufacturers.

I am sure a new 17 is coming. I would just love to see another usb2 port, and maybe a numberpad.

My prediction is that the 12 inch Powerbook and iBook will merge into the 13 inch MacBook (without "pro") and that there will further be a 17 inch MacBook pro or "mega" or whatever. Each size with different set-ups.
My further prediction is these amendments will arrive with the MacBook pro's first speedbump, maybe up to the 2.16 GHz Core Duo or even that new 64 bit mobile processor.
The upcoming notebook related keynotes won't be as pathetic as they used to be the last years.
Felix, thrilled about Apple again

An extra usb port would be awesome across the line. I often find myself having to use my trackpad because I only have 2 usb ports. I have a hub at my desk, but I'm not about to unplug it and bring everything with me...

I currently have a 12" PB revision A. I've always loved the size of it. I want a Macbook for sure, but am unsure what size I'll get. I really think it would be cool to get a dual core processor. If the new 12" or 13" or whatever is only a single core, I may get the 15 incher. I'm really hoping the Macbook Pro 13" has a dual core processor.

I'm guessing Apple didnt release a 12" or 17" MacBook pro due to Intel Core Duo shortages. Expect other sizes between now to at least April.

Yes, of course. It will be called the Big Mac book. Perhaps there will be included a free coupon for a large order of Mac Fries and a vanilla shake. Maybe I'm just getting hungry.

The reason there is no numberpad on the powerbooks is because it would put your hand off center to the center of the screen, and thus you'd be looking to the right and not dead ahead when you're typeing.
I'd never thought about this before and I went to a CompUSA and played with one of the widescreen laptops with a numberpad and I find it horrible looking to the right all the time.
But _technically_ we do have a numberpad on the current laptops. Press num lock and then I think (at work, not on my powerbook right now) it is:

Absolutely not their will never be another INTEL laptop larger than 15" from Apple. Apple has decided that even though the 17" made them hundreds-of-millions-of-dollars they will own make 15" notebook computers.
OF COURSE their will be more.
You need to look at it like this, the new mac book pro is like the "beta" of Apple-Intel powerbooks. It's for people to play with and early adopters. Apple will release new powerbooks in March, and then again in June.
The 15" mac-book pro will be updated in just a few months as well.
;-)

apple likes variety
if there is a big enough demand for it they will build it

it was a joke, OF COURSE there will be a 17" intel powerbook. My point is this 1 notebook that was released by apple, is just a "test" machine, a prototype, a plaything, it's the first revision, and that's why it's only in one "flavor"
The chip shipping in the revision A 15" macbooks will be replaced before june with a much nicer chip, and I wouldn't be suprised if this is when the 17" come around in march – may

thanks ink
i was hoping it will be around that time also since i need a notebook for school
now the hard part, the wait
i hope apple has heard a big enough cry for the 17" lately to roll a new one out around the time frame you specified
sure i could get a macbook 15" but if im gonna spend two thousand dollars i might as well spend three and go all out

I was thinking about it and all that apple needs to ransition is the ibook, 12 & 17 macbook mac mini and power mac. plus we will hear the announce of leopard i feel that the powermac will be the last to transition so we should see some good stuff on apples aniversary (april 1st) what we will see i dont know but i would like to hear some educated guesses from the consensus ive also heard talk of the current macbook being a stop gap and the actual macbooks will be with 64 bit merom processors in 2007 one said thats when we will see the 17 inch replacement
what does everyone think?
when should we expect a 17" replacement?
