So anyone here take advantage of the program? I just talked to a "Genius" at the local Apple store and he said that it is offered and that the deadline is sometime in March. I was thinking about it but wanted to know if anyone here has had any experience with the program first-hand.

I haven't even heard about this. Do you know any of the details? I have an older 12" and 17" that I wouldn't mind getting rid of to get a newer 15" or 17".

The text of the deal is below. The deal is, in my opinion, a good one if you have a Rev A (especially the 400Mhz model). For the "Gigabit Ethernet" models...ehh...not as great of a deal. At the same time, it's more convenient to trade it in to Apple as you don't have to hassle with selling it on eBay, pay the sales commissions, etc. To each his own...

----
PowerBook G4 Upgrade Program
Applies to US

From December 19, 2003 to March 27, 2004, Apple is offering owners of original PowerBook G4 and the PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) computers the opportunity to trade in qualifying units for a credit toward the purchase of the current PowerBook G4 (15-inch FW 800) or PowerBook G4 (17-inch).

Because this is a pilot program, it is currently available only to those customers within the United States.

Note: To take advantage of this limited time offer, customers must contact Apple directly at 800-275-2273.

Customer Eligibility
Most owners of the original PowerBook G4 and PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) are eligible. Please mention the availability of this program during any contact with customers who own these products.

Generally speaking, the best time to introduce the program is at the outset of the customer's contact with your establishment. As always, use your best judgment as to the most appropriate moment to mention the program.

Exceptions
PowerBook G4 and PowerBook G4 (Gigabit Ethernet) computers that have been dropped, have cracked displays, have had liquid spilled into them, or have been otherwise accidentally damaged are not eligible for this program.

Please discuss these conditions of ineligibility with your customers and clearly communicate that any units exhibiting these symptoms will be rejected.

I disagree - who would pay $700 for an old TiBook 400- 550 MHz? I could see maybe holding on to the 667 MHz. I would trade in my TiBook 800 MHz if it was eligible.

Edit: I found the link on Apple $700 across the board not bad since I only paid $275 for mine used.

So what are the trade-in values? I have a TiBook 500 Mhz (and a new AL 15"). My neighbor might buy my 15" and I would like to switch to a 17".

Also can you use your ed or gov discounts. I'm in Europe or I'd call. My family could do the trade in for me.

Could someone who also interested call and post details?

does anyone know how the education discount works? some people said that it's only $500 with education discount. do they mean when you bought the powerbook using education discount or are going to use the education discount?

because i bought my tibook at the full price but want to use my education discount to buy the new powerbook. it wouldn't be fair to sell it for $500

I sent in my 15" TiBook (500 Mhz) on Thursday. I ordered a 1.25 Ghz 15.2" AlBook for $1,899 + tax ($2,599 - $700 trade-in value).

The person I talked with at Applecare was very helpful and informative. I called a few days earlier to ask a bunch of questions and ended up calling back to go through with the deal. Now just waiting for the credit card to be charged.

They don't do the educational/government discount on this offer and you can't combine your PowerBook order with anything else. So no free Epson Stylus C84. I still have my other free C84 from my dual G5 purchase. I have to decide to sell it or use it. Seems like you can sell them on ebay pretty easily for the price of replacement ink cartridges. Is it worth selling or just use it? Is ink expensive or what?

I actually took advantage of this way back in January... got a new 1.25 powerbook. It was MUCH easier than dealing with somebody from eabay.
Got 500.00 off the purchase price.

1 FP iMac
1 B&W G3

Well my old 500Mhz must have been a CTO the only difference between all the eligible models
was it has a 10GB hard drive instead of 20. I ended up selling my AL 15" and bought and received a beautiful refurb 1GHz 17" from Apple and gave the 500Mhz to my wife.
