Okay well since I just got my new PB I decided I needed something that had a right click function... call me crazy but isn't it about time apple put in a 2 button track pad? Anyway, I bought myself a nice red MX510 today at bestbuy for $50 and I have to say I'm very impressed. I opted for optical over bluetooth because I wanted the flexability of having the extra buttons. I didn't want to get wireless RF b/c then I'd have to carry a base station that was wired and that would just be a total pain. It was between the MX900 and the MX510... and due to the easier setup with the 510 (and the lower cost) I decided to go for it. I have to say it works great based on the little time I've been using it. Works great for gaming (was just playing the call of duty demo) and is very precise (which is always good...). I also have an MX700 on my PC, and I can definitely say that I notice the difference between the sensors. This mouse is very smooth and I would definitely recomend it to anyone looking for a good full sized mouse!

How much of a difference is their between the optical sensor in the MX510 vs. the sensor in the MX500/700? I've got an MX700 on my G5, and I must say it tracks better than any mouse I've ever used (especially when whipping the mouse around at high speeds). In what way is the MX510 better?

wuzup.

I agree 100%. the 510 has worked great for me. I love all the buttons and use ALL of them using USB overdrive.

You can feel a very slight difference in the precision of the movement. The new sensor feels smoother and seems to track even better than the mice using the previous sensor (which I agree are very very good indeed). IMHO it's n ot worth upgrading to the MX510 from an MX500... however, if you're in my position where you just need a new mouse... then the MX510 is a great choice. I agree though, I play games a lot on my PC tower and the MX700 is an excelent machine. Best tracking I've ever had until the MX510 came along. I must also stress that the increase in performance is only slightly noticeable in gaming... or if you're working in photoshop or something like that where the precision is felt... otherwise it feels just like the MX700.
