I subscribe to eMusic. They have a pretty decent selection of Indy music, and the eMusic downloader will put the songs wherever you want them. I set it to put them in my iTunes music directory, hoping iTunes would automatically see them and put them in my Library, but it isn't doing that. Anyone got any ideas on what I could do here?

In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library to show iTunes where the songs are.

Couldn't this be solved by a folder action?

No. I don't think a folder action would do it. iTunes needs to be told to look for the new music. Just putting the songs into a folder won't work.

Wouldn't that be the point of using a folder action?

Well, yes. But correct me if I'm mistaken--folder actions don't run behind the scenes. The folder in question has to be visible or open.

My simple recommendation for Deathman would be to have the downloaded files placed on the desktop. Then just drag them to the iTunes dock icon.

Thanks for the advice. I wonder if a cron job could be in order. iTunes is applescriptable, is it not? Even then it would have to run quite often. Hmmm. It would be very nice and seamless if I could simply download files to my music directory and have them added to the library.

The weird thing is that it organizes the files as soon as I put them in there, but doesn't add them. So its doing something. Maybe thats a folder action, though.

You can just double-click on the files and iTunes will put them in your library.
