But nobody is talking about using them in the microwave. Plastic in the microwave in general is a stupid idea.

Which kind are the REGULAR kind? The kind with the phthalates, or the ones that are food-safe?

Because heat and energy = the plastic starts to break down, and the plasticizers and additives are more likely have their chemical bonds broken, thus releasing them. But again, if there's not 'california cancer' label on this packaging, I'm pretty sure that at ROOM TEMPERATURE, the plasticizers aren't going to go anywhere. In the fridge, it'll be even less likely.

Better not put food higher than room temperature in them.

Because it wasn't always dead and the bacteria fighting properties of wood remain after it has been cut.

Research by people who are actually qualified in this field disagrees with you. But don't let that stop you.

Is anybody else reminded of Kevin's 16th Chapel thread?

So you wait for your left overs to cool down before you put them in plastic containers. How fun.

Left overs? Who's talking about using these things for left overs? The topic is about BAGEL SANDWICHES. What the hell are you talking about? Perhaps I should bring up that this is a stupid idea because it won't hold the volume of oil needed for an oil change, that has about as much relevance.

The topic was bagel sandwiches, but it quickly became about plastic containers, food and otherwise.

I'm sorry you don't see the relevance of putting left overs in plastic containers designed to hold food in a discussion about food and plastic containers.

I find this interesting:
plasticizers and additives are more likely have their chemical bonds broken
Does that mean there's a risk of that crap happening on its own? I might have to stop using plastic containers altogether. Seems unsafe.

Well yeah, plastics in general aren't the safest thing to use. It's much better to use glass, metal, stoneware, etc.

I've stopped using plastic in the kitchen wherever I can. Glass, porcelain and stainless steel all the way.

Dude, I didn't report you for insulting me, so lay off with the attitude. I don't know what your problem is lately, but you're definitely on the offense, and I thought we were cool with each other. Lighten up.

i can't believe i'm biting here but here goes:

rob, i got banned due to simply implying that you were being an idiot ONCE in a thread. you on the other hand have insulted and harassed so many people so many times on this forum since you have been given the "clearance to post" here for whatever stupid reason, and you don't get banned. of course people are going to harass you if you harass them and others. it's called what comes around goes around. i have seen many posts of yours that have been insulting and so disrespectful that I had to actually close out of macnn because I didn't want to see it anymore.

I honestly don't know what your problem is Rob, but if Tooki was still here, do you really think he would put up with your crud? I don't.

this is me speaking honestly about Rob, and if y'all see me get banned for speaking the truth, it's probably because of this post.

so yes, of course I'm on the offense Rob, because someone is holding your hand here, and banning people who you seem fit. I don't know what you did to get on the good side of the mods here, or see any reason for you to be. good people have gotten banned with no warning what so ever because of you Rob, and when you do something wrong, do you get banned anymore? NO

Alex

Excellent find - I didn't know Phil had coined that one.

However, what a perfect way to find the "16th chapel" thread referenced by Mas above!

Teehee - just search for "zimphest".

Hee hee.
