I used to have an emergency installation of OS X on my iPods, which have helped me out of many a scrape in the past. I had to format my 3rd Gen to Windows aaages ago, and I've forgotten to re-install OS X on my 4th Gen since one of the last times I wiped it clean and installed the last few updates. Yes, I know you don't have to wipe them to update them, but when you have over 100Gb of music, it helps keep things fresh when you're forced into reloading it.
Anyway, I just tried to install OS X on the 4th Gen just now, and I got told I can't use it as a startup volume, and wasn't allowed to install OS X on it. Eh? Since when? Did I miss that memo?
Gonna roll it back a few versions and try that, but I'm interested to know if anyone can shed any light on this for me; mainly, when and why this happened.
