Engadget has this story - Padded lampposts for distracted texters being tested in London - Engadget

Apparently the Brits are trying to save themselves a few headaches.
I think it's just sad that people no longer look where they're going.

edit - natural selection comes to mind. those able-bodied texters - capable of foreseeing objects and texting.

I never understood this whole texting and walking thing. Then again I never understood texting all that well either. But it seems that everytime I give a lady my number their more interested in contacting me with their thumbs when it comes to going out.
are you lightfooted?

In the future, we will never leave the comfort of our hermetically sealed oblong boxes, not even for poopy. And human contact will be only for evacuations.

That is idiotic. How about teaching people to look where they’re going instead?

I text while walking quite often, but I take it for granted that of course you look up and make sure you’re not about to walk into anything (like lamp posts or oncoming traffic, for instance) every three or four steps. Doesn’t take more than a split second, surely no one is in that much of a hurry?

People need to recognize satire when they see it.

The mark of good satire is when its believable. I didn't read the article, but I wouldn't put it past someone, somewhere to try.

Now that I had time to get thoroughly inebriated, isn't the spelling of lamposts incorrect - shouldn't it be lamp-posts, or at least lampposts? And are the spelling nazis the same group responsible for the padding of the lamposts/lamp-posts/lampposts?

A couple months ago, I was walking downtown with a group of people, and as I was turned sideways talking to them I ran chest-first into a parking meter.

Fail?

Yes (lamppost or lamp post) and no, respectively.
