i have had several extended apple keyboards
but they all seem to have the same fault
the cap lock key doesn't work properly
to print just one capital letter takes at least several key stabs to register
or, is there a secret general command that i have missed?
keystabbing greg

Greg, I am not sure what you mean. You use the Shift key for one cap, and the caps lock key for only caps. If it is the caps lock key, are you sure it's not disabled? If it sticks, it would stay on, and you would need to loosen it to print small letters. AFAIK, there are no secret commands to capitalize.

thank you for pointing out to me that i needn't use the lock key to capitalise!
a pretty stupid thing to have done for many years
i must now get it to become second nature now
a much more accurate keypuncher

Greg, are you using one of the newer aluminum keyboards? I, too, have found that the caps lock button on my aluminum keyboard doesn't always seem to register that it's been pressed.

thank you, thorzdad, i was beginning to think i was going mad.
my aluminium keyboard DEFINITELY sticks
the caps lock that i have to use as my left hand is frozen doesn't work for the first few attempts
i haven't seen it referred to in any forums, and this is why i have asked you experts first
i await more experts confirming this problem

There is a slight delay before the caps lock key activates and locks.

This is by design, as iT USED TO HAPPEN ALLT EH TIME THAT POEPLE TYPING FAST WOULD HIT IT BY ACCIDENT.

the 'slight delay' turns into a much longer pause very quickly

I know it won't help with the problem with the key itself, but would you think re-mapping Caps Lock to a more convenient key help your usability? There are some 3rd-party utilities that help you remap the keyboard. Here's one I found. It works for all Macs, not just MacBook, apparently. Others are out there.

May I suggest remapping caps-lock to both shift keys? Since you can't use them for regular shift one-handed, they'd make nice large targets.

You can do that in the keyboard pane of the System Preferences.
