I think security updates still come as needed to older devices, it's more that you won't get upgraded to a newer version of Android on an older device unless you use a third-party ROM.
The Department of Homeland Security disagrees with you - and they don't even bring up the slow patching by network operators who want to validate the security patches that have already been through an OEM, Google's Android team and usually a few open source code reviewers as well. Those security patch procedures makes Apple's OS X patching look like a role model.
The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.
