I just picked up a mid-'09 MBA from a friend. It currently has Mavericks on it.

I know that the hardware officially supports Yosemite and El Capitan, but should I upgrade? I'm guessing the 2GB RAM is going to be a problem in terms of performance.

Thoughts?

Stick with Mavericks. Those machines are not speed demons and yes the ram will drag you down.
