Welcome back, sek.

Hearing you say it was deserved does help alleviate some of my concerns. I just don't want the place to get too boring.

Why was sek929 banned? Weird.

Shaddim and brassplayer should have been banned for personal attacks.

I think the mod is playing favorites.
Bush Tax Cuts == Job Killer
June 2001: 132,047,000 employed
June 2003: 129,839,000 employed
2.21 million jobs were LOST after 2 years of Bush Tax Cuts.

Careful...playing with fire can end up burning you pretty badly.

Also: as has been mentioned, temp bans are automatically levied based on point counts from infractions. So there's not a lot of favoritism going on there.

You only have one premise that leads to your conclusion there shifuimam

temp bans are automatically levied based on point counts from infractions + infractions given out unfairly = favoritism.

Looks like hyteckit's ban wasn't of sufficient duration.

Yeah...sorry about that.

The infractions can be based on favoritism I suppose, which leads to temp bans.

Although it does explain why sek929 was banned, which was the other part of hyteckit's post.

And, if Shaddim and BPR had received infractions for personal attacks, that doesn't guarantee a tempban, depending on how many infraction points they already had.

The mod can chose the "severity" level of the infraction.
I have had temp bans that were only based on one infraction.

Needles to say, this kind of BS is really boring. I was always told infractions are warning shots, but what good is it if you get banned immediately when receiving the infraction.

Unless you are just off another ban and start acting very badly again right away, I don't think it's mathematically possible for only one infraction to get you banned.

In all fairness I got my two infractions at the same time so I had no idea what I got banned for until I was able to come back.

I dunno, it must have been mod magic then, because it definitely happened to me, w/o any previous infractions.

Yes, I had that happen, too.

LIke posting in the same thread, and then getting multiple infractions for multiple posts, w/o any fair warning. Awesome 'NN'nes

Your profile shows two 10-pt hits a couple days apart from two different mods. That second 10-pt infraction would have put you at 20 points, which triggers a temp ban.

Yes, I remember that, but that was not the incident I was talking about.

It might have happened in the early stages of "infraction experimentation", when the rules about infractions were not as clearly defined. But sek's example shows that the intent of warning members is still easily missed.

There was a certain post hoc feel to the way the whole situation was dealt with.

I'm curious...

There seems to be an almost universal call for more mods in the PWL. What are the objections?

Lack of enthusiastic volunteers among the staff.

Nor can we throw an inexperienced moderator into the Lounges. New moderators are added on other forums, then may volunteer for Lounge duties after a few months.

We've conned a few into the regular Lounge, but they haven't fallen for the PWL recruiting spiel yet.

And you have to be careful about it too. Those strawberries on top have to be just exactly ripe and sliced precisely at the right thickness. Yes, he does have a micrometer... And it had better be "the right" milk too. Hoo boy!

Awesome. You guys should just ban anybody who is :
1. Cool
2. Not gay

Then you could have an entire forum of gay mac fanbois. It'd be great.

Very entertaining indeed!

He posted exclusively in the Lounge (plus this one post in Feedback). And he mentioned Paris Hilton. Can't say I'm surprised.

Cute, Simon...

Interestingly, repeated and pointed reminders that his particular style just doesn't fit here are STILL not getting through to him. I have to wonder why...

Sorry, Glenn, but I have to completely disagree.
The post above was sarcastic, but nothing anyone would have gotten even an infraction for.

All his other posts over the last 12 months were good stuff, productive and civilized.
AFAIK, he has shown no fallouts, excessive rants or member bashing.

Why do people hold old grudges for so long ?

I'm not sure why it really matters. Even if he were to quit being an asshole (and from what little I've seen, that won't be happening anytime soon), it seems like he's long since used up all his Get Out of Jail Free cards. It's just an Internet forum, for crying out loud! If his presence has been unwanted here for this long, what possesses him to continue to try and come back?
