Web links which shouldn't be there.

Hello all
I'm on a MacAir, running 10.8.2, and when on the web I find that quite a few words are in blue(thus a link), and I sometimes think they are on purpose by the writer, but when I click on them I find it's an ad for something totally unrelated. This happens at least on Chrome, but I think on Firefox as well.
Any solutions?

It could be the website, we used to have such a service and the ads are inserted via script. Which websites, or any website?

These are called inline ads. Many websites use them as revenue enhancement. They're keyed to certain terms that relate to an advertiser's message. There are many firms that offer the service. AdBlockPlus can easily block them.

Thanks. I do know about inline ads, however, even on my company website(on the backside which the public never sees) some of the words which should provide a link to a doc I need to bring up, instead will be an ad. There is no way an ad should be there.

some kind of cookie or downloaded javascript from another website? did you clear the cache?

That is disturbing. Could it be that there is a web proxy somewhere that is rewriting the code?

The new Mac Pro has up to 30 MB of cache inside the processor itself. That's more than the HD in my first Mac. Somehow I'm still running out of space.

I just received and email reply from the gent who wrote adblock, and he said to disable extensions in Chrome one at a time to determine the cause, and it was system extensions for Chrome which were the issue. Seems to be all set now.
