Let's assume that Christopher Nolan agrees to direct the next Batman movie and we keep the same general universe he has created going...

How do you follow up Dark Knight, or do you? Who do you cast? Who will the villains be? What will their beef be?

It seems that the best villains from the comic books were used in Dark Knight, leaving little left. What made the Joker and Two Face so great is that there was actual insight into what led them to do the things they did. It wasn't just "I'm evil, cackle cackle" like many past superhero movies that are spoofed by the Dr. Evil character in Austin Powers...

The Penguin... angry because he is part bird? Huh?

The Catwoman.... ummm..

The Riddler... sort of like the Joker, but more puzzle oriented, angry at nobody paying attention to his puzzles? (this might be the best of the bad options available)

Dr. Freeze?

It seems like if they want to continue this franchise they are really going to have to come up with some new villains!

Describe these villains...

What I dislike is have two villains in one film. Both Burton and Nolan had one villain in their first films, then two after that. Burton's first film had the the Joker, Nolan's was Ra's al Ghul. the next Burton films featured: Penguin/Catwoman, Riddler/Two Face, Poison Ivy/Mr Freeze, and threw Robin and Bat Girl into the mix as well. Nolan second film has the Joker and Two Face, although Dent was a "white hat" for most of the movie. Lets hope Nolan goes with one villain for the next film.

But as to the question, Angelina Jolie as the Catwoman

You're really telling me you don't think Nolan could make a good film with Catwoman and the Riddler?

For one thing, these movies don't play the comic characters straight. Ra's al Ghul in the first movie is nothing like the comic character. Scarecrow is similar, but with a lot of changes to make him fit into the movie's world. Nolan's Joker kept the character's essence enough that fans didn't shout, "Hey, that's not the Joker!" But it was definitely a different take on the character.

New villains are must because most of the ones in the comi, err excuse me, illustrated novels novel are too goofy for the serious tone set by Nolan. Catwoman could be done in a serious way. Selena Kyle was a top notch cat burglar, hence the name. As long as they don't put The Riddler (Edward Nigma) in that stupid question mark suit, he can be done in a serious way as well.

Catwoman - Cat burglar & assassin. Parkour expert (aided by catsuit). Sharp claws. Toys with victims before killing them. Played by Angelina Jolie.

I could see Cat woman being a good go, perhaps the Riddler, thing is this Batman universe is pretty non super powered, so it's difficult to see how this Batman would react if paired up in a fight with Superman.

Scarecrow was actually a bigger villain in that movie than Qui-Gon.

Catwoman and Bane, the movie ends with Wayne getting his back broken.

I think Hush and Poison Ivy would be cool.

Hush for obvious reasons, could truly happen in real life.

And Poison ivy could be realized by making her like an eco-terrorist who asks wayne for money to save eco-systems or endangered plants, but is enraged when he turns her down. Then she could somehow come into contact with Hush, learn of waynes secret and join hush - yet also help batman along the way when Hush is being too maniacal, or self-indulged.....

And of course there are enough poisonous plants with various affects that could help the story along.

I dunno.

Not very realistic however. Also I find it too close to spidermans sandman.

Killer Croc is a definite possibility for a realistic villain.

If you can't get on board with the authenticity of a genetic medical condition that turns a person into a crocodile, then you clearly need to loosen up.

I think the Riddler could be done well, but I fear that he's too similar to the Joker to be the next villain. Honestly I'd rather see someone more like the Black Mask - even though he's not that great of a comic book character he could be a great villain on screen.

All glory to the hypnotoad.

I'd like to see the rumored Philip Seymour Hoffman as Penguin angle.

He doesn't have to have penguin hands or anything like that...just a high-class villain with some kind of angle that Nolan could make sense out of. If they can do it with a character like Scarecrow, they can definitely do it with The Penguin.

Some good ideas in here for making realistic versions of the villains, especially Catwoman and Poison Ivy.

Harley Quinn could work into the story as carrying on from Dark Knight. Harley and Joker were a couple, now that the Joker is locked up Harley (with best buddy Poison Ivy?) carry things on. The Joker is still related to the story and maybe referred to, but not on screen. The Nolan films' enemies have all been male, so if a third one is made its due some bad girls.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

I think the 2 villain streak will continue. In the 90s push, it was because 2 was more exciting. That was a mistake. In the most recent movie, the creation of the second villain (two-face) was crucial to the plot in terms of describing the descent of Harvey Dent, and the hopelessness against a villain like The Joker.

I suspect that it will continue and we'll see Catwoman, who in modern Batman is not a very clearly defined villain. Catwoman represents the bad aspects of good people (to me) and serves as a distraction and point of confusion: "Are all criminals bad?"

I agree that the "question mark suit" would be horrible, but a nice pale green suit would not look bad. I don't know the genesis of the Riddler that would work well in Nolan's Batman. My hope though, is that the style remains in the pseudo-realistic fashion, that most of the things that happen are only slightly off-reality and require just a little suspension of Disbelief.

Personally, I don't want to see Jolie in the role of Catwoman... I'm just not a fan.

I like Angelina Jolie, but I'm not sure she'd be good for Catwoman in this series. They seem to be avoiding high-profile stars, which can be a good call because overexposed stars can take people out of the movie.

I guess anybody but Halle Berry.

If it had to be Catwoman, I'd like to see Jodi Lyn O'Keefe in the role.

She can be evil, sexy, and such a damn bitch!

For those who don't know, she's the one who plays Gretchen on prison break.

The Penguin is lame. Who's afraid of a bird that can't fly?

The Riddler has potential, but he has to be totally insane like the Joker. With no regard for human life, his riddles could be tied to something a la the Saw series.

Remember, in film #1 all those crazies got out of the asylum. Huge potential for weirdos. Villians have to be insane and not just plotting.

Should be out in 2011, right? We'll see...
