I admit it - I like April Fools Day. It's funny, and I love seeing how companies try to put a little humor in everyone's day.
This year I've seen a serious backlash about 4/1 on Twitter. So many people take things way too seriously and don't want a laugh. Oh, you'll pray to your invisible deity and get the day off for it, but laughing? OUT OF THE QUESTION!
I don't get it. First off, social media has allowed everyone who's offended by silly things like the color green to gather everyone else who's offended by the color green a platform for anti-green rants. This quickly turns into people splitting off because some people like kelly green and some people thing that nothing is more pure than Pantone 362.

it's just an image, not a redesign. and if you remember, one of the "old" things on the internet was improper image resolution on websites, making everything look like that. think tripod sites and the like. only thing it is missing is blinking GIFs and scrolling text (but can't do that with a simple static image).
i like it!

It's been happening for years (the backlash) and its because most of the time, it isn't funny. Not a surprise, corporations aren't known for having a sense of humor. Couple that with the last few years a few places have jumped the gun (March 31st) because people pick-up on the bullshit easily.
There's one site than never fails to deliver – ThinkGeek. I saw this year is no exception.

What Dakar said.
The question isn't whether I want a laugh, it's are they being given.

Reddit's a nightmare today (I mean, far more than usual), but they actually came up with a good meta joke.
They put up a button which counts down from 60 until a user presses it.
When it gets to zero, something will happen.
Nobody knows what, because users keep pressing it.
