I'm writing an iPad app that plays mp3 streams. I need to be able to detect periods of silence in the stream.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might do this?

Thanks all!

Unfortunately, it's not possible to detect silence in an MP3 file or stream as the compression hides it.

Now if I could just figure out how to access the decompressed data stream.
