I've recently realized that my 1.25 Ghz Albook with superdrive is burning CD-Rs at 8x instead of 16x when I select "Best" speed in Toast. These are TDK discs rated "up to 48x." It also happened on a Maxell which is "speed compatible 48x." What happens when I burn is that Toast reports the correct estimated burn time for 16x and then 1 second ticks off the timer every 2 seconds of real time. It's clearly burning at 8x.

It burns DVD-Rs at the rated 2x. Haven't tried CD-RWs.

Is it possible that I've got media that is too fast for the drive?! Anyone have a similar experience?

I'd really rather not have to have apple repair this machine. Last time they kept breaking it, necessitating more repairs.

Any help appreciated.
