Before I disembowel my 6500, Does anyone know if

1) The power supply can support a second hd.

2) Is there a spare power connector coming from the power supply

3)Can I use a IDE cable from a PC that has more than 1 IDE connector

I don't really need to do this, just wanted to see if I could add a second 4 gig hd. I have had the front and back covers removed, everything is pretty tight in there. Thanks for any info.

The only internal bay to add a hard drive to is at the very top, above the CD-ROM. I believe all 6400/6500 series machines had a SCSI connection there, not IDE. It was for the optional Zip drive Apple offered. The IDE controller on the logic board did not support master/slave setups, so I doubt the dual drive cable will work for you. The power supply can support it. We had a few of those where I work with additional drives and they were fine. I don't recall off hand if the power connector was a standard connection or if we needed an adapter. Zips take a smaller power connector and that might have been what was in the bay.

Thanks for the info. I have a zip in the top bay. I was going t try to squeeze it in the bottom somewhere. I guess it really doesnt matter if the IDE controller cannot handle slave master anyway. I guess I could get a PCI IDE controller. I don't know. I just thought since I had thaat spare drive lying around I would put it in. Oh well, thanks again.
