Which one should I go with?

I use it for appointments, phone numbers, taking notes, and light music. I like the form of the Tungsten, but the camera in the Zire 71.

Please help! Please tell me why you chose the one you did. Thanks!

Why would you NEED the Tungsten? The zire 71 is more then enough for what you need.

If you really want the camera, get the Zire. If you want Bluetooth more, get the original Tungsten T....
... if you can find it! My wife and I both got original Tungsten T's a few weeks ago, as they were disappearing from most retail places (and got some good deals, too.) A week after we bought ours, Palm released the Tungsten T2 with 32MB flash. The T2 lists at $400, and since it's new you won't find any discounts. If you can find a T hiding on a back shelf for $200-$300, you should get it.

And Sony Clie's don't sync out of the box with Macs, you need a third-party shareware program. And they're ugly. So there.

I had an original Tungsten. It was a cute little device, very solidly built. But the screen, was awful. So washed out. The T|2 and Z-71 screens are much better. If you can wait, the Tungsten|3 is coming out with a 320x480 screen and landscape mode capabilities.

You might as well spend a couple hundred buck and get a laptop then. That thing is overpriced.

Thank you to everyone!

To answer a few questions:

I don't need bluetooth or a digital camera (although it would be kind of cool)....

My maximum cash limit is about $275-$300, which means I can't afford any of the newest Tungsten's. I will probably have to purchase them (the two I'm looking at) refurbished. I just want one with PalmOS 5.

I've found various deals (and it's so annoying to track them because you'll go back five minutes later and it's gone), but here are the two best as of 1:00 PM EST on 8/13/03:

Palm Tungsten T: $239.00
Palm Zire 71: $239.00 from Palm Outlet the other day.

Can someone tell me where to find some around this price or better? Thanks!

If you look at the screen of the Tugsten and then the Zire 71 you will choose the Zire for sure. The screen is waaaaay better.

The screen on my Tungsten is just fine; I do admit, though, that I was happy with the screen on my venerable Palm V, and I'm happy keeping the Tungsten backlight on the lowest possible setting. So I may not be the best judge of a PDA screen.

The TT|1 that is. The TT|2 has an identical screen to the Zire 71.

The T1, T2, and Z71 all have acceptable screens in my opinion, however; the screens of the T2 and Z71 are noticeably better. If you don't need the Bluetooth, go for the Zire 71, I just bought one and love it!
