A Maine woman who prepared a salad from Shaw's found a dead, 3-inch blue-bellied lizard from California in her salad [story]
Hawaii Officers Accused Of Forcing Homeless Man To Put Mouth On Urinal [story]
^ What I find crazy about this story is that they have a picture of three urinal stalls, but they're from Hong Kong, and each stall has its own television:

On a somewhat more serious note...
Anyone else getting tired of the H3N2 outbreak?

According to this article, PETA killed over 1800 dogs and cats in 2017.
Looks like Penn and Teller were right about them all along...

I didn’t see the Penn & Teller.
I can see the argument euthanasia is the proper course.
I can’t stand PETA.
I don’t know the name of other animal rights organizations. I know PETA’s name because they’re assholes. IOW, regrettably, there’s incentive for them to behave the way they do.

The WWF is alright, isn't it?
The only reason I found out about them in the first place is obvious, but I've always thought they had a good reputation.
[EDIT] Nevermind. Conservation does not necessarily = animal rights.

My aunt is forever posting pictures of animals in desperate straits who need money for surgery, and the cynical side of me says no, put that animal down, and save the money for the others. She is also the one who adopted a very unfriendly dog, who would only tolerate her.
not defending peta, they are jerks.

Well, I fibbed a little to be concice.
I can name a few, but none of them have the mindshare with me PETA does.
Even if the WWF doesn’t exactly fit, with me as an example it’s an example of this. I’ve of course heard of the WWF, but I haven’t thought about them in years.
I can peg the exact moment. Andi posted pandas hitting each other with folding chairs.

Yeah, there are many who are overly-empathetic about animals. I don't fault them for their compassion, but how many people want to pay for a 14-year-old dog's surgery?
Dogs that hate everyone except their owners are the only dogs I don't love. They're sub-dogs.

...which I'm assuming is solely due to their bad press. What a terrible organization.

A sting operation on an arms deal just went bad.
It was here.
This is where the State of Illinois has all their downtown Chicago government offices. Also prominently featured in the 80s movie Running Scared.
By some bizarre occurrence, an off-duty police commander was shot and killed.
Edit: it’s possible the sting part is incorrect. I read about things when news was flying fast and furious, and didn’t check for updates since.

That mannequin is fairly realistic. Without the hoodie on and on a sunny day, I would guess that no one would know.

It would be totally inappropriate for me to note which world leader’s wife the mannequin resembles.
So I won’t do that.

Well Switzerland got its wish
In a world first, Switzerland deems it illegal to boil a live lobster. A law goes into effect March 1 that requires a humane death for lobsters before they are cooked.

This is Lorelei.
It gives you an idea of what one of our local radio stations stands for. WLUP, “the Loop”.
If you’ve ever heard of Disco Demolition, that was them. Lorelei here is from that era.
Pin sweeper just came through. It’s going non-commercial, Christian.

I'm a Christian, and Christian radio even makes me sad.
Christian music has come a long way in the last 20 years, but radio Christian has not.

What?? You do realize that 1998 was 20 years ago, right?
Bleach, Switchfoot, Blindside, dcTalk, Relient K, Five Iron Frenzy, Delirious?, Project 86, Grits, Jars of Clay, The O.C. Supertones, John Reuben, Kutless, MxPx, Pillar, Thousand Foot Krutch...I'll admit I don't listen to Christian rock today so maybe it's way better now, but '90s Christian music was awesome.

I'm getting so old, you pointing out that 1998 was only 20 years ago made my eyes bug.
You have a point with:
Bleach
Switchfoot
Blindside
Relient K
Delirious?
MxPx
TFK
OC Supertones made me want to convert. To anything else.

The lyric in Jay-Z's So Ghetto "Iceberg slim baby ride rims" have struck me as weird and goofy for almost 20 years. Today, I looked them up and got context. So, that's something off my list.
Hi everyone.

Someone decided to play a little April Fool's prank on my synchronized clock. Earlier today, I noticed that it was set the correct day, April 1, but to an hour behind the correct time, and it said Th (meaning, Thursday). When I checked the settings, I discovered that the year was also set to 2010.
A little tactful humor from the fine folks at Oregon Scientific...

Apparently relieving symptoms brings in endless money. A cure sends the patient away - no more money.
This is a good example of why business should not run government.

What is actually a much more pressingly obvious conclusion is that healthcare should under no circumstances be profit-driven.

Government doesn't make a profit. The group tasked with solving a problem will get reassigned, but everyone else will have a shot at their former budget. So there's no system-wide motive to fail.
The reasoning does break down with very large efforts.
