This is Lake Shore Drive. It doesn’t look populated, but there’s city on the other side of those trees.

^^ The above might not belong here. It may warrant a thread to call its' own.
- Cheating on tests. By the school rather than the students.
- Gender discrimination.
- Do these test scores become part of a student's permanent record? If so, falsification of official records. Which could affect them at any other school they apply to. A legal injury, grounds for a class-action lawsuit.
- Excluding students on fears of what they might do in the future, when the students are innocent today. (prejudge -> prejudice)
- Applying a quota without announcing it - Japanese law violation. For 7 years running.
- As lots of people had to know, and none reported it, we may have conspiracy charges.
- Accepting bribes to let unqualified person(s) in.
Quite an accomplished list for a university. Took years of work.

The education minister Yoshimasa Hayashi told reporters he planned to examine the entrance procedures of all medical schools.
This story could get a lot bigger. If those suspicions are true, a lot of people could be resigning and/or going to jail.

I absolutely hate logging out of gmail and still having my username "logged in." I have to further remove my username. I do so even on my own computer. When I am logged out, I want to really logged out, not half way!

Want a smooth ride, even if you bought square tires on a sale?
Yes, it rides smoothly. No bumps for the rider - the axle heights remain constant. Click the picture for the article.
If you are near Saint Paul, MN, stop by Macalester college. The bike can be ridden by the public.

An amusing read:
Man holds frog hostage in standoff with deputy
Stolen Plane Recordings Show Man Confident In Flying Ability
At one point [he expressed] confidence in his flying ability because "I've played some video games."
$30,000 ring accidentally thrown out in dump and recovered using GPS
Not sure what I make about this story, given the high price of the ring. Heck, it costs as much as a nice car!
This guy (check his photo, proud of himself obviously) got mad as his girlfriend, so he killed her pet lizard. Yup...
A fine example of why preparation matters:
Man waiting for driver's test arrested when instructor smells weed coming from car
The trooper recovered almost a pound of marijuana, more than $15,000 in suspected drug-related money, [and] a loaded handgun with a 30-round magazine that was in the glove box
Police have a hard enough job as it is, for example
dealing with this:
A Houston woman was taken into custody by Bryan police on Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman with a tire iron in an argument over chicken
Another disgusting act involving a miscarriage
A woman overdosing at a Chillicothe, Ohio, Burger King bathroom gave birth to a baby in toilet bowl as her boyfriend passed out on drugs in the parking lot
I was wondering if we could have a separate thread for Random Interesting/Cool News, such as:

Sitting in Starbucks watching a guy sitting next to me randomly hitting his iPhone with the palm of his hand every so often, as if to try to fix the iPhone. Sorry, but the iPhone is completely non-mechanical and different from the audio cassette players of yore, which maybe requires a careful knock on the corner for it to work properly. Seriously stupid.

Probably just stupid, but solid state devices can benefit from some old-fashioned percussive maintenance. If a connection has become dislodged, a good whack can relodge it.

http://hiphop-n-more.com/2018/08/son...thumous-album/
Michael Jackson fans around the world will feel a major sense of victory as Sony Music has conceded finally in court that they released three fake tracks sung by an impersonator. These songs, ‘Breaking News’, ‘Keep Your Head Up’ and ‘Monster’ appeared on the late legend’s first posthumous album, Micheal in 2010. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 with first week sales of 228k.
Interestingly, Serova also said in the court that Sony Music and the Cascio brothers had been trying to delete evidence of any misdoing and make sure the media didn’t take up the issue on a big level. That’s the reason why this story has hardly been reported so far. As MJ enthusiast Damien Shields reports, on December 7, 2016, lawyers for Sony Music and the estate finally conceded that the songs might actually be forgeries. They said that Sony and the Estate had taken Porte and Cascio at their word and failed to make their own investigation.

It sounds like they lied to Sony, but I'm not sure.
What's weird is, would three songs really be a deal breaker on releasing an album?

You know when smoking is a problem when...
https://www.tampabay.com/news/public...ipe-_171358863
Authorities say Jenkins, 39, (his girlfriend died in the accident) admitted to cutting the metal-coated brake lines on Fox's car the night before the crash. His reason: Jenkins had allegedly been trying to get a metal pipe that could be used to smoke crack cocaine.

Can't wait for the first person to kill themselves using metal straws.

Three songs is the difference between releasing an EP and releasing an album.
Do you have any idea what the royalty payout would be for the producers of three songs on the first posthumous Michael Jackson album?

I don’t see a way he can tank the price enough for it to matter without getting fired and/or charged with securities fraud.

Musk needs a vacation. SpaceX is executing well, with BFR development coming along. Tesla still needs attention, but letting the CEO melt down due to stress and overwork will not help.
He should take a month off. Off-grid if need be, to cut the stress. It's good for his health, and good for his companies.

A French school posted a picture for recruiting purposes. In order to appeal to prospective American students, their ad agency turned three students black. And added two more black people to the picture. The original pic had only white people.
Spotting them all will take a little work - the guardian does not show the exact same pic before manipulation. Instead one taken up to a minute off from the same set.
Speaking as an American, I do not find this particularly appealing.

I was about to post that. I do see the people who have been digitally altered but I do not see the two black people who have been added.
Edit: never mind, I see them now.
