depends what you mean by safely.

Safari's compatability is pretty good, but there are sites out there that are written exclusively for, and work only with, IE. For those sites you may want to keep it around (it's not *that* big).

Try running with Safari for a while and see if you run into problem sites. If you don't you can trash IE (since you can always just download it again later if you need it).

I suppose so, if you don't use it.

Safari will be the default browser in
Panther, and so Internet Explorer most
likely won't even ship with it.

Trash away.
(I still need it 'cuz Safari doesn't work sometimes...)

Nope, you cannot download it from anywhere. You could only reinstall it from the Jaguar CD. Not sure why though.

Confirmed.

Actually, I have a hard time believing you couldn't *always* do this since people have undoubtedly deleted it before and then needed a new copy.

Regardless, you can now.

When OS X first came out, you could only get it from the install CD. MS did not have it available on their website. I think it changed around the time Jaguar came out.

I'd keep it. Just this morning I tried to print a shipping label from FedEx online, and Safari decided that the .gif that makes it up should be shrunk on print. I don't think you can shrink a barcode and still have it work... so I had to open the same URL in explorer to get a proper printout.

Just cuz it's 1.0 doesn't mean perfect.

You know, it doesn't hurt just to have it there just in case..I mean it doesn't take up that much space.

Keep it around- you never know. If you're worried about it getting "accidentally" launched by URL files, tar it up.

If you feel like it, and don't have any sites that ask you for IE, trash it. I would, but I do my web testing with it just to be sure - hope we can get rid of it soon though - looks like if the Mac version is left way behind the PC one, I'll be needing to spark up VPC much more regularly...
